graftgurl, I'll be interested in hearing what they tell you. When my husband was on dialysis, he had the same problem, real bad on his face. Let us know what they suggest.  :cuddle;

Well, I wanted to let everyone know what my dermatologist said today about my fingers peeling and the blisters......well, she feels like my situation is due to the graft being put in the same arm and she feels it is a vascular issue for me.   She said she is going to call my surgeon to see what maybe they can do to get me some relief.  Another reason they feel it is my graft is because of my veins being sooooo tiny which causes for poor circulation in this arm/hand.  Soooooo, I guess I will have to wait & see what the surgeon tells the dermatologist.   :stressed;

And here's my update a week or more late!! Sorry guys, I have been so busy that I have barely had time to eat and sleep, much less get on my computer  :(
Well the peeling on my hands continues and now the fingers are cracking painfully and bleeding when I use them. I have tried putting moisturizing cream/antibiotic ointment and a bandaid at night but I can't do that during the day because I use too many of the fingers that are cracked. It is very, very painful.  :'(   The same thing continues on my feet, as well. The doctors are telling me something similar to what TynyWonder was told--->the graft in my leg is messing with the rerouted circulation. They say eventually the body will build collateral circulation so that the swelling/pain/color change/cracking skin issues will be better. They cannot, however, give me a time frame for when that will happen. I do believe it has improved a tiny bit the last week because the color in my foot looks a little better. Yesterday and today, though, I have been on my feet way too much and so the swelling and color have been worse those days. Why though, am I having issues with the cracking and peeling on my hands and the other leg?  :waiting;  No one can say yet and I suspect it may be a reaction to the dialysate. I will have to pursue that possibility with my dr. after Thanksgiving.

I should be able to check in more this week with the holiday and all. Although, they have rescheduled my days for dialysis because no one is working on Thanksgiving. Oh well! That means I won't have my 3-day period without dialysis until Wednesday, which is alright with me. I can use all the help I can get.  ;)
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving   :bestwishes;

Graftgurl,

I am glad you got back with us.   I was a bit relieved when you said your doctors told you that the feeling will come back and all that other "jazz" will go away because I have not been told that at all so, hopefully, that will be the case for both of us!!!   :thumbup;   Do continue to let us know how your situation is coming along but especially when and if you begin to get some feeling back.   Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

Well, would you believe that the feeling HAS come back in my two fingers?!?!?!?!?!   One of them still does have like a brown callus on it but pretty much the throbbing is gone.  Now, it only hurts for a minute if I hit either one of them just right.   How is your situation doing graftgurl?

My skin started peeling, all right, but it wasn't a reaction to dialysis.

It turned out to be a fungal infection of the skin, which started in my groin (jock itch) and spread to my hands and the folds of my lower abdomen and right leg.

I know it's a fungal infection, because topical antifungals are gradually dealing with it.

I must have picked up the fungal infection, either in the hospital when they fitted me for the hemodialysis catheter, or at the dialysis center.  Dermatophyte infections (jock itch, athlete's foot, etc.) are highly contagious, and the hospital and dialysis centers are the only places where I have exposed large parts of my body outside my house lately.

Sounds like "Steal Syndrome" for the pain, tingling and numbness.  Vascular can help with that.  It's just that circulation has been rerouted from the hand, foot.  As far as the peeling, is your Phosphorus out of whack?  Sometimes that will make you peel, or cause an all over itching.  Called "Uremic Frost"  Once your blood cleans a little better, and your phosphorus is under 6, it should get better.  If thats what it is, keep posted :thumbup;

I recently started to get itchy hands, really itchy hands and I couldn't do anything to stop it. when I talked to my neuprologist he said it was likely an allergic reation to my dialysis fluid in particular 7.5 strength. He immediatley told me to stop the fluid he also said if I would continue my skin would likely start peeling. It also affected my feet but not nearly as bad Since I stopped using 7.5 I haven't had a problem. Hope this helps.
