I am hoping someone can help me with this whole SSD question.

I left my job on May 7th due to my kidney problems.  I filed for SSD and am awaiting a response.  I thought that once I was approved, that I would be paid for all of the months since the date I left work.  But I just read that there is a five month waiting period.  Does this mean, they don't begin paying you until after the five months?  Which would mean I am not getting anything from them until October???  Seriously?!  How is that fair?

I was not expecting this.  Do I have this right?

My husband became elgible in Jan- 2006- first check came in August 2009 and he did not get any back pay- however- if your destitue, they may give you SSI for three of those months, if you qualify. You have to be very broke, and show almost zero balances in your accounts to get this, and its about half of what the SSD is, and that isn't much, we only kept our house by a friends good grace.

I'm sorry, I wish I had something more positive to say.

Seems they give you six months to live or die.  If you live.... they start paying you.

Hang in there.      :cuddle;

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard!!!  The good thing for me is that I have private disability insurance but it's not enough to pay all of my bills so SSD was going to help with that.  Plus I will get money for my kids.  Here I am thinking that I will be approved any day now and will be getting a nice back pay check.  Even though I have private disability, before I left work I had several surgeries in which I did not have any sick days for so I was docked pay.  I also had a two week waiting period before I could collect SSD, so I am behind in many of my bills.  I was hoping that I could catch up with a check from SSD.  Good grief!  Looks like I will be behind the eight ball again, trying to play catch up with my bills.

Thanks for the info. guys!
