Hey I dont really have much to say right now about myself and I may update this later but basically Im on dialysis and have been for about 8 months now. Im 21 years old and in the Marine Corps infantry.....or rather I was in the USMC but now I am being medically retired which might sound like a good thing but my with my pasion to serve my country and my love for the corps I promise you it is far from being a good thing. Leading up to my kidney disease I had vasculitis known as Henoch-Schonlein purpura. Shortly after starting dialysis there were severe problems getting my body to work well with the system which in some part is due to the meds i was on for the vasculitis as well as the disease itself. Soon My blood pressure sky rocketed and became extrememly hard to control. Then one day I came home from work and decided to take a nap. I didnt wake up from that nap for a week and found out that I had a series of seizures from having my BP 230+/135+. I was in the hospitall for about 3 weeks before they believed that my BP could be controlled by oral meds which they soon discharged me on. It was not but 4 days before I had another set of seizures much like the first and for the same reason. I didnt wake up untill about a week and a half after the seizures and was only too find that I was going to be a high risk for seizures for the rest of my life. I have a large amount of white matter on my brain now and many vessels have burst causing brain damage and some memory loss. Its been about 2 months since my last seizure and hopefully I will not have anymore for a few months. I cannot even get on the list for a transplant untill I have been seizure free for atleast 3 months. Well I think that about covers it and thankyou for reading my story.

Hi Travincal.  Welcome to the site. You´re sure to enjoy it and learn a lot, too. And you can teach us some things, I´m sure. I echo Joe Paul in saying thanks for serving our country in the USMC. Hang in there - it´s not all bad.

Welcome! I know you can contribute so much to this site because unlike some others you have so much drive still and are not willing to give up despite all you've been through. An ex-bf of mine (also a dialysis patient and successful transplant recipient) has seizure all the time so I know that is a real pain in the @$$. I hope they can help you but remember, what does not kill you makes you stronger.

I hope you never hold back and always speak your mind here.

Trav thank you for being "willing" to serve our great country.  You still can serve in many ways.  You can write and email your friends over there and give them hope and courage from a far.  Your main job now is staying seizer free so you can get a transplant if that is what you want.  Welcome to our site.
