Hello all,

My name is George. This site is a great resource.

I will be having a pd catheter placement on thursday 10/2. I had a transplant back in Jan 2002, (living donor - sister). Things went well until spring 2003 when I had a nasty bout with cmv. For some reason, it took this hospital several weeks before they tested for the cmv. Sometimes I wonder if cmv didn't attack the kidney for such a long period of time untreated, whether my story would be different today.

It looked like cmv killed the kidney. I had to go back on hemo (in center). One day my neph. comes in and says, your labs are excellent. It turns out after a few months of hemo, the kidney started functioning again in August 2003. That was a blessing. There was some kidney function lost and some of the nerves were damaged. Noone really knew what would happen next. It is now almost 5 years later and I have come full circle. October 2, 2008 I will be having the pd catheter placement. In the midst of all that has been going on, I felt the worst ever when I had to tell my sister (donor) I was going back on dialysis. Now the great news.... were expecting a baby boy in December.  :bandance; I am very excited about this.   :bandance; Thanks for having me in the community.

 :welcomesign; to IHD.  A baby!  :clap;

did you have noticeable symptoms from the cmv infection?  this has been a recent topic of discussion for those post-transplant:

if you can share any insights in that thread it will be appreciated!
