I just managed to break my finger at 2:30 this morning! Who does that?? We heard a large bird outside our bedroom window screaming like it was being attacked, so we got up to see. I opened the window a bit to hear better, and the damn thing dropped on my finger! And theses aren't your newer vinyl things. These are 100 year old solid (and heavyyyy) windows! And the kicker is, it's the same finger and the same bone that I broke back in '06. Man. I've got my transplant evaluation at UC this morning and am running on virtually no sleep for the last few days. Over tired and in pain...I'm going to be so much fun today!!  :banghead; :banghead; :banghead;

Admin for IHateDialysis 2008 - 2014, retired.
Jenna is our daughter, bad bladder damaged her kidneys.
Was on in-center hemodialysis 2003-2007.
7 yr transplant lost due to rejection.
She did PD Sept. 2013 - July 2017

They should be understanding about not sleeping. You'll sleep tomorrow and then on your dialysis day.

I am way to familar with those darn windows. What a pain they are when not aligned and trying to open.

For a broken finger, they just splinter it, right? I have broken my toes on a few occasion due to metal doors in one place I lived, what a pain that was for a bit.

   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Lost vision due to retinopathy 12/2005, 30 Laser Surg 2006
ESRD diagnosed 12/2006
03/2007 Fantastic Eye Surgeon in ND got my sight back and implanted lenses in both eyes, great distance & low reading.
Gortex 4/07.  Started dialysis in ND 5/4/2007
Gortex clotted off Thanksgiving Week of 2007, was unclotted and promptly clotted off 1/2 hour later so Permacath Rt chest.
3/2008 move to NC to be close to children.
2 Step fistula, 05/08-elevated 06/08, using mid August.
Aug 5, 08, trained NxStage and Home on 9/3/2008.
Fistulagram 09/2008. In hospital 10/30/08, Bowel Obstruction.
Back to RAI-Latrobe In Center. No home hemo at this time.

Wow that has to hurt. The windows on older houses are so heavy they are the same way in our house. Glad it was just one finger and not your hand. But, I am sorry to hear that this happened.

I had to chuckle because I thought "the damn thing" that dropped on your finger was the bird! 

On another note, I hope you finger heals quickly. I just know you're going to be frustrated over the next few weeks when you realize how much you use that finger.  I hope your evaluation goes well - the broken finger shouldn't really have any impact on it, just on your state of mind.  It's never just one thing that we have to deal with.  Keep the chin up, and the birds off your finger.

(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)

Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Our windows are on a pulley system with unbelievebly heavy iron weights. We are in the process (well, were) of restoring the windows and this one was one we haven't gotten to. Only one sash cord is there and it snapped when I tried to open the window last night.

The last time I broke my finger, I went to the hospital and all they did was xray it, give me a vicodin and slpint it. I didn't even bother going this time. I know exactly what it feels like. I popped some Tylenol, wrapped and taped my finger up really well, went to bed and sent Greg to CVS for a splint when they opened.

I have no idea. The sound of the window banging seemed to shut it up. Probably scared it off. We have never heard anything make a noise like that. It sounded like someone was pulling it's leg and the poor thing was screaming to be let free!

The only testing they did at my eval was blood work. I gave them copies of clearence forms from OSU, lab work, a list of every medical professional, pharmacy, etc. I use, my meds list, and a print out of every hospitalization and surgery I've ever had. My coordinator said she has never seen anyone as organized as me! The only thing I need to have done are ultrasounds on the veins on my legs and neck. It shouldn't take long at all to get listed at the University of Cincinnati.

Facebook. For some reason, I start having anxiety attacks when I try to update my CaringBridge site, so that takes me a little while to get updated lately. The only reason it was on FB is because with their new format, anytime I post on someone's wall, everyone can read it now. I hate the new format.

I'm not a fan of the new format, either.  I don't know if I'm not moving around in it right, or what.  But, it seems that I'm not getting as many notices as I used to.
