MY DAD WAS ROBBED TODAY!
«
on:
August 11, 2008, 08:20:35 PM »
My dad was working in the garage, trying to get things arranged so my new scooter will fit better, when a guy just stepped in, pulled out a gun and demanded money. All my dad had on him was four dollars that I had just given him for gas, so he just gave that to the robber, who then ran away. We didn't even know anything had happened until my dad came in and told us. There was no violence, just a threat of violence. To be honest, we have our doubts that the gun was even real (we sure as hell aren't taking any chances, though). We called the police, and they came over to do the report and get the description of the robber from my dad, and they put on extra patrols in the area. We just thank God that it wasn't worse. However, if the guy had force my dad inside where me, my mom and my brother were, there was a good chance that it would have ended badly for the robber. I have a couple firearms (besides the pellet and airsoft guns I have),a and my brother and I have a lot of experience with using firearms. The robber was a teenager who seemed to not have a lot of "experience", and he probably didn't even know how to use the sights on the handgun he had. My brother and I would have done every thing we could to protect ourselves and our parents, but it makes me nauseous to even think of taking another life, and I pray to God I NEVER have to. Geeze, a fistulagram and an armed robbery all in one day! What next!?

I'm glad your dad wasn't hurt! How sad that you can't even work in your own garage without fear.

Sorry, Adam but I'm also happy. Speaking as a retired cop, you're father did exactly the right thing. Four dollars isn't worth getting hurt over and everyone is safe. Living in a small town, I sometimes forget that this stuff still goes on.

I hope the police will increase patrols in your area. Thankfully your dad was calm and things didn't get worse.

How frightening, I'm so glad your Dad had the sense to hand over the cash and no-one was hurt. As you say it probably wasn't real but you daren't take chances. I hope the police get things sorted. Don't let it spoil your joy over the scooter

Fortunately it may have been an inexperienced robber but it still is unbelievable that some of these teenagers don't value life as they should. Seems like they would take someones life over a few dollars. Glad it turned out the way it did because your family's safety is the priority. This person may feel a little bolder now, but with boldness comes mistakes and he will soon get caught, hopefully before he gets hurt or hurts someone.

thank God you and your family came to no physical harm
OMG, not even safe in your own garage
a few years back someone tried to break in our upstairs
lucky for us, Bubba had moved his heavy bunkbed right against his upstairs bedroom window
the girls were both home sick from school and would have been home alone
the bed was moved some and the window was broken
we have not had that happen again --- not with our cow dog, Yogi, in the backyard

Adam, I'm so sorry this has happened to your family, but happy nobody was hurt. I told Len this morning while watching the news that I don't think there is anywhere safe anymore. How sad the times have gotten.

That was really awful! And to think it was in your own home. But, as the others have said, it ended without anyone being hurt. Let's hope they find that young man before he gets worse. My caring thoughts are with you and your family! Even though it was a small sum, the sense of outrage is still the same, because it could have been more.

thank goodness it turned out that your dad was not hurt.
Robberies can happen even in small towns - a little house we were renting was robbed in broad daylight when I was in my 20s. The only thing the thief took was the "sentimental" jewelry given to me by my family when I was a girl. It was in my top dresser drawer (bad idea). I never really feel safe at home alone since then, especially at night, even though I live in a "low crime" area.
