Kidney foundation holds symposium

The National Kidney Foundation serving West Texas will hold its first patient symposium from 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. July 11 at the First Christian Church, 29 N. Oakes St.

A complimentary lunch will be provided, and door prizes will be given.

The event is open to the public, and dialysis patients and their families are encouraged to attend. The symposium will feature five speakers who will address funding and treatment options, exercises and how the National Kidney Foundation advocates for patients.

NKF use to do that here, but now has switched mainly to supplying knowledge about transplantation. They do have some vendors from dialysis though, but no speakers. I was going to post the pamphlet, but can not find the file.

I had  a pamphlet from  the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois called Living with Transplantation. It listed the breakout sessions, who was speaking, so forth. After 2001, NKFI stopped having seminars that mainly focused on dialysis and switched it's focus to transplantation and donors, which led to needing a bigger space.

Mine had pictures and more information that what's on the website now since it was held in April. I suggested to them to put it online also to save some trees or to email it to members. Then they wouldn't have to print out so many and save a little of natural resources.

Wow, Karol... this is in my town 

My nephrologist's wife is a transplant recipient.  She started our local support group.  She has been working hard to bring in the NKF.  I went to my nephrologist yesterday and when he walked in the room I was reading the flyer for this event.  I told him, "Wow, that sounds interesting!"  He responded with a great big smile and said, "yeah, and thank God most of it doesn't pertain to you anymore!"
