Interesting (and scary) morning

In the past, I have done some kind of weird things in my sleep (including tending to my dialysis machine), but I did something this morning while I was asleep that could have made me seriously ill or even killed me. My modeling "workbench" is right next to my bed, and I keep all my glues and paints there. I woke up suddenly with a terrible burning sensation in my mouth and throat, and a sticky feeling there. I also discovered an open bottle in my hand. In my sleep, I had taken a nice huge chug of cyanoacrylate adhesive (super glue). This stuff can be very dangerous both as a skin bonder, and toxic fumes. The CA was starting to dry in my mouth and throat, and I was getting nauseous. I got my dad up and explained (as best I could) what happened, and he called poison control and, to my relief, found that when CA is exposed to water, it dissolves and becomes harmless. I was told to drink a lot of water throughout the day (I'll worry about taking the extra fluid off later), and I should be fine. I'm just glad the burning feeling woke me up before it started drying in my throat and stomach. From now on, all my chemicals, glues and paints are being stored somewhere else. Seesh, what a morning.

  glad you woke up when you did. That might sound like a dumb thing to do but I know what it's like when you are half asleep and do something completely off the wall like that. Been there only not as serious as that. Putting those things out of reach was a good idea.

Glad you woke up. Yep definitely move those chemicals out of reach and hard to get at. I have done some weird things in my sleep too when I was a kid. Walked outside of my home in the middle of the night and locked myself out, somehow got a gash o my head walking into something, and sleep eating. Never went to see a sleep specialist though and the problem went away on its own.

The mind can play weird tricks while we are asleep.

I've been doing ok for the most part. I still have some tiny pieces of adhesive stuck in my mouth that I'm hoping will just come loose on their own, and I've still been having periods of nausea. I'm going to be setting up an appointment with my primary care doctor to hopefully make sure there hasn't been any unknown damage, and to maybe figure out if I have an actual sleep disorder. I'm pretty sure I do, because like I mentioned, this isn't the first time something like this has happened (nothing this dangerous, however). From now on, I'm not going to have anything near my bed that could be potentially dangerous, including my Japanese samurai sword. It's a display piece, but it's still a real sword that's real sharp. If I were to get hold of that thing in my sleep, that would be bad. I don't think anything like this will happen again, but you can't be too careful.
