A friend of ours from Jenna's dialysis unit needs some prayers. Rebecca had a kidney transplant years ago when she was 13 but it rejected pretty quickly. For years she has had access problems due to vascular problems, causing scarring and fluid retention in her head, neck and chest. She is in the 20's and this has been a very difficult time. She had no luck getting a transplant here in Los Angeles so I recommended she go to the San Diego area. She was listed at Scripps where Jenna's transplant took place and last Friday got the call for a transplant! Unfortunately now she is having trouble due to a sleepy kidney, and she's still getting dialysis. I just spoke to her and she's alarmed because her head and arms are so swollen and she cannot take the discomfort. She had dialysis yesterday but the fluid is still building up. She isn't making much urine but the IV is still hydrating her and she's asked for more dialysis. But they asked her to wait as they want to keep plenty of fluids on board so the kidney doesn't get dehydrated. Poor girl, she sounds worried and miserable. Please send good thoughts and prayers her way. Thank you.

Is she getting Furosimide to stimulate urine production?  Hyperhydration plus diuretics is the way to go to overcome the delayed graft function, so let's hope she can be patient and tolerate the discomfort for a while longer.

Bless her heart!  She is in my prayers.  Back in October I had alot of trouble with swelling and retention in my neck and face.  We finally figured out that it was a blood clot at the end of catheter.  Hope they can get everything under control quickly!    :grouphug;

I have Alport's Syndrome. My kidneys failed when I was 14 and I was on PD for five years before receiving a kidney transplant from my mother. That kidney failed in 2004 and I've been back on PD ever since. I am undergoing treatment for my high antibodies at Cedars-Sinai medical center. I had a kidney transplant on June 10, 2008. My boyfriend was the donor.
