Hello all!  I'm just figuring out all this great site has to offer, cool!  So I figured I should start by telling a bit about myself (and it was suggested). 
I'm a Canadian, living in Winnipeg, Manitoba (the heart of Canada).  I'm a diabetic and have been dealing with its complications since 2000.  I've been through it all; blindness, poor circulation... and now kidney disease.  I've been on dialysis for a couple of years now and am on the waiting list for a transplant.  Being that I've been dealing with sickness and poor health for so long I found myself "having enough".  So I had decided to stop dialysis, it's been a process.  Last Oct. I had stopped treatment for 5 weeks, then a friend said he was "thinking" of donating a kidney to me after we discovered we were the same bloodtype.  Alas after he had a chat with the doc, he decided that it wasn't for him, wonk wonk.  At this time I was going through a bout of peritonitis.  But I decided to stop treatment again.  So I managed amazingly to live for 10 weeks.  I was tremendously uremic and the sickest I've ever been in my life.  I just couldn't handle being sick anymore, it was awful.  I also didn't think I would make it much longer and sucking it up and going back on PD dialysis seemed most appealing.  So I ended up in Emergency and spent a week in the hospital getting everything back to normal. 
I feel good about my decision.  I'm working extra hard on this gig, so prayerfully I won't burn out.  It helps to have a fantastic, caring doc. 
Oh and a little about me besides my health issues... I dig reading, drawing, travel, I spend time with family and friends, I am a professional listener of music like jazz, and blues, cooking a big meal for a potluck with friends is one of my favorite things to do, usual stuff.

Glad you found this site and hope that it/we can help you feel a little less alone with this wretched illness and all the complications.  Nice you now have a doc who cares, makes a huge difference.
BTW I'm from Toronto and don't know Manitoba well but I did fly to Bissett(sp?) once and canoed the Bloodvein River.  There were over 50 portages but what a beautiful river.

Welcome to our community!  I feel the pain you have been through, but I am so glad that you are still here to join our IHD family.  You have much to share with us.  And we have lots to share with you as well.  I would love to ask you (in the General Discussion) to describe those 10 weeks (when you stopped treatment) to us.  Here is a place where you are free to vent, rant, rage, rave when you want to.  Check out our posts and you will see.  My caring thoughts are with you as you play the hand that you have been dealt (as we all have to)

You will find lots of support here and so much information it gets overwhelming at times. What better way for things to be, knowledge is power. I'm sorry you went through the helpless stage and was ready to give up. Hopefully you will gain friendships here from some members who have felt the same or are feeling the same. I'm glad you are feeling better now but anytime you need to talk we are only a keyboard away.

Thanks for sharing your story and dialysis is no fun but you've made it through the tough times and I am sure that things will get better. I live in Toronto and have family in Winnipeg.  Please stay in touch and ask lots of questions .  I know that there are people here that care.

Welcome to the site!  It sounds like you have been through the mill. Decisions to quit dialysis are always not taken lightly.  It is nice to see you back in a routine and feeling better.  Post any thoughts you have and if you need support we are here.
