I taught myself by using TABS

A great TAB site is www.ultimate-guitar.com

In case you don't know what a TAB is; it's basically like sheet music, except instead of telling you which notes to play, it tells you where to put your fingers.
There are 6 lines, each one represents a string on the guitar. And the numbers represent the frets that your finger(s) should be on...There are probably some good websites that would explain it better than me...try googling

Good Luck!

PS: the first song I ever learned was Hurt by Johnny Cash (its a good one because it introduces you to some major chords [ C, F, D] )

I've been pickin' and grinnin' for about 45 years now and still enjoy it. The guy who sits next to me at dialysis still plays guitar in a band three nights a week.

I know the basic chords but still don't play very well. I have a Fender Stratocaster Custom with a Deville Amp.

Sluff....if it's an old Strat, it's worth a lot of money.

It's not old but It is a custom I paid around $1000.00 and about $1200 for the amp.  Hyperlite thanks for the Tab Site.

My husband's been playing guitar since he practically came out of the womb. He and his 2 brothers used to have a band and produced an album. He still gets together with some friends once in a while to jam. He's going this Sunday in fact.

Congrats on wanting to pick it up kickstart! It looks way too complicated for me.
