Hi!, my name is John and I have ARF...Whats in store for me?

Hi all. Been reading this board and have learned alot and have a new empathy for those who have Kidney illness and all other illnesses.
Having had no problems til the age of 47 due to untreated high blood pressure, i thought I was Superman, and a lil high BP wasnt going to stop me. Well It seems it has taken its toll and beaten the hell out of my Kidneys! I put my self in the Hospital last week after 2 weeks of unexplained nausea and vomiting. Couldnt eat or dring a thing! Thought it was due to acid reflux brought on from cessation of smoking.
Turns out my BP was 289 over something and I had acute renal failure. Spent 5 dys in the Hospital got my BP down to 130/76 and was told my Creatine level was 7.1.
Had to check out before biopsy to take care of bussiness.
Feeling better now, no body odor like before( strong garlicky ammonia like smell.)
Urine output is ok and headaches are gone, breath is much better, eating ok.
Urine is still very foamy, acid in stomach not too bad.
What should I do?
Is there really such a thing as temorary dialasis?
Or am I destined for continous treatment?
Would appreciate any imput.
Thanks!

Glad you found us. Hopefully someone will have some answers for you. There is alot of knowledge here and everyone is willing to help. Have you scheduled the biopsy yet? It may help with some answers. Find a good nephrologist that you like and trust. Keep asking questions and then ask again. Do lots of research--we all say here that knowledge is power. We are here for you

Welcome to the boards! A lot of your questions can be answered by reading the site's questions and answers. Noone can tell you except your doctors whether you will be on dialysis for good or not. Be well and be careful.

Thanks! I feel very wellcome allready!
And I am reading alot of post and getting first hand knowledge of the "illness" and its ways.
But I believe my doctor told me my creatine was 6.9 when I eneterd and 7.1 after 3 days, I haven seen any levels that high here thus far.
I am not "anemic" at least do not show the classic symptoms and my urine output is just alil less than usual.
Im drinking alot of berry juice and water no salt to speak of.
I feel pretty good besides an upset stomach which seem to be find when i take Tums.
Does foamy urine indicate definitively that i have kidney failure?
And the fact I lift weights account for high creatine levels?
I knowi need to get the biopsy sooner than later.
Will that be definitive?
Oh, and if my Kidneys are working to some degree would that lessen the amount of treatment?
And kudos to the creator of this site! Great design!
And thanks again for the wonderfull wellcome!!!

Foamy urine is a sign of protein in your urine. I usually get a lot of foam when I urinate, and I have considerable protein in mine.

Hi John,
Welcome - I hope you find some great support here and can also get some questions answered. This is the introduction area so please post whatever questions you have in the subject where they will get read. You can also use the search feature to see if there's a related thread. It's a lot to learn about when you're diagnosed basically overnight! I hope you hook up with a good nephrologist that will help guide you through the process. Best wishes to you!

John and
to IHD.
I'm really surprise you are not on dialysis with a creatinine of 7.1? My neph started me on Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) when I reached 5.0 I have been on PD since Oct 2007.

Wow! BP 298 over something? When I first discovered I had high BP and kidney failure, my BP got as high as 220/140, and that put me in the hospital for two weeks so close to death I could smell the grim reaper's breath. Good luck with your situation.

Im feeling much better mentally and physically but I still feel that Dialysis is in my future.
But even that does not seem so gloomy a future now.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.
