Dawn Muccie-Wirebach of Croydon enjoyed making costumes for her son, Tommy, so he could compete in Sesame Place's costume contest.
“We won awards quite a few times,” said her husband of 12 years, Harry T. Wirebach III. “One year Tommy was Pinocchio, I was Gepetto and Dawn was Figaro the cat.
“Tommy won again because he wrote a book. Dawn made him into a big cardboard book with several pages on the front of it and when they took the picture of us, Dawn was the little girl sitting on his lap and I was the tree they were under.”
Her husband said that she enjoyed throwing Tommy big birthday parties every year, and that his wife had a strong spirit and was an advocate for so many.
“She was an amazing mother that gave birth to a miracle baby,” he said. “He was born [weighing] 3 pounds, 3 ounces and we almost lost him a few times.”
Mrs. Muccie-Wirebach, 36, died Jan. 31 from a stroke. She was a kidney dialysis patient since the age of 15.
“She is the longest surviving dialysis patient that I've ever heard of,” her husband said. “She was so strong to have taken so much pain for so long.”
Born in Trenton and raised in Middletown, she was a resident of Bristol Township for five years.
“We purposely got the house because of the park across the street for Tommy,” he said. “She liked to take him there often while I was working, but they'd do other things like play checkers and read.”
Mrs. Muccie-Wirebach was an active volunteer and fundraiser for School Lane Charter School in Bensalem, where her son attends. She also was a guest speaker for a nearby DaVita Kidney Dialysis Center in Newtown Township and was an Avon representative.
“Tommy was reading by the age of 3, because Dawn homeschooled him until he started preschool,” her husband said. “She and I are so proud of him; he's our smart little man and wise beyond his years.”
Her husband said that they met for the first time at the Old Colonial Inn in Hulmeville.
“We were there separately with a few friends doing karaoke night,” he said. “I said to a friend, "Hey, she's kind of cute; is she single?' We've been together ever since.”
