Rookie girl, I also was diagnosed with IgA.

I'm currently taking 4 weeks short term disability to get away from all the stress of work.  When I return in April, I have asked my Dr to write me a note to work reduce hours 10-5.  Mornings are bad for me.  Also, I have been blessed with a wonderful manager who has hired another analyst to assist me.  This has taken a huge load off my back especially when I return.

It sounds silly, but I just take walks. The staff I work with are good, and no one minds when I say "going to get some fresh air!". I will literally only pop outside for something like 2 minutes.

Mind you, my job isn't stressful. The trouble I have is that some days I am just so exhausted and the fresh air helps wake me a little. I don't know if this is my medications making me tired or what, but the staff all know that I'm a transplant patient on loads of medication so they figure a short walk isn't much for me to ask.

The one thing that does stress me is the few staff members who still come to work sick and cough all over my general direction, even though (after problems with this previously) we placed a polite sign on my desk reminding everybody that I am immuno suppressed.

I know exactly what you mean.  For the last 2 weeks, I have been fighting a sore throat and headache.  There were at least 8 people at work with the flu.  One of them sits across from me.  She came in to work coughing and ran a fever but didn't go home.  She even came back to work the next day and finally she had to go home because she almost passed out.  She was out of work for 3 days.  She came back that following Monday still coughing.  Remind you she sits across from me.  What ticked me off is that she kept saying "I hope I don't make you sick?".  NO DAH!!!!

Well, I'm in the health field, and although I'm in an office out the back with no direct patient contact - you can imagine the bugs that must go around! I try to hold my breath when I walk through the waiting room

My way of dealing with work stress is when I need an hour or two off for an appointment, I tell them I need a half a day. When the doc told me to take a month or two off for my immune system, I'm taking three! After the three months, I'll just have to download that song onto my computer at work!

Right now, the most stress I have at work is feeling that I cannot give 100%, and that makes me feel guilty.  Is it fair to collect pay for doing only part of the job I was doing before?  It's not my employer's fault that I have this disease, it's not my fault either.  But, is it fair to my coworkers?  I've seen people on chemo get pushed out the door because they couldn't pull their full weight.  I feel so much pressure to not let my disease affect my work, but I'm absolutely exhausted, I can't focus as well as I did before, I can't put in all the extra hours, my creativity has declined.  I can still do my job, but I'm just doing it - not excelling at it.  This really stresses me out.

Speaking of stress on the job; the funny thing is I'm on a 4 weeks leave of absent.  I still get phone calls and emails from my job with questions.  Last night, I read 10 email questions and received 2 phone calls today from work.  I'm stress even when I'm not at work    Imagine when I return.

Cherpep, I know exactly what you mean about feeling under pressure to give 100%. I think people notice any shortcomings much quicker, when they know you have an illness. Perhaps they are subconsciously actually LOOKING out for your shortcomings.

I had a couple of bad days this week. It is helped by the person that works at the desk next to mine. She is so funny, we spend most days wise cracking and playing jokes on each other and some of the other staff members who share our sense of humour.
