What's dialysis?

« on: September 08, 2007, 03:27:46 PM »

It has been suggested in some previous posts that the UK is far behind the US with regards allowing people to work and dialyze in-centre due to the fact that the UK runs a 9 to 5 day.

I would like to put the record straight and say this is nonsense.  I go for dailysis in the evenings after work and my unit is staffed until 11pm.  After that, there is always someone on call should any emergencies arise.

In years gone by it may have been more difficult to find a unit that acommodated evening dialysis but times have moved on considerably.  I appreciate the National Heatlh Service for allowing me to continue to work and have dialysis.

Hi Matt,
Jenna clinic was open 4 am to 9 pm. If a patient didn't get there in time to allow at least 4 hours for dialysis, they were out of luck, they always closed promptly at 9 pm. In Los Angeles that can be a real problem for people who worked and commuted if there was a major traffic obstacle. I think that's why many working people opted for the 4 am shift.

Nice to see you here Matt!

My husband's center is open until 8 or 9 but he goes at 2:30 but when I have to go to my class in Springfield, that center only runs two early shifts so the latest he can go is 11.  Then he has to call a cab (at least they will call the cab) since I am in class then and cannot drive him.
