Mom had her stay over at the sleep clinic. The room was nice and clean. Bed was comfortable as were the pillows. So many wires. On your head, face, chest, legs (to see if they twitch), and oxygen sensor I think - not actual oxygen prong in the nose it went just under the nose. She slept from 10 to 5 and got up twice to go to the bathroom. Not sure what time it was, but she screamed really loud during her sleep. They heard her but didn't come in and she didn't wake up. She kind of remembers it though.
So I got up at 5am (let Cath sleep in since our party is tonight at her house) and got mom by 6am. Bought breakfast at Tim Horton's drive-through, got her in her door and headed home. Her appointment to discuss findings is in two weeks.

I'm glad she got through it. I've had sleep apnea for 6-7 years and it takes awhile to get used to the c-pap machine. Make sure if you need to get a c-pap machine that you get one with the humidifier right away, it will help stop dry throat. I used to get a sore throat without the humidifier.

Mom has a moderate case of sleep apnea. It is 5.9 ( I have a friend here who is at 13!). Her oxygen level drops to 84 at times while she sleeps so they will get her set up with either just air or oxygen. The next sleepover date is Saturday, 1/26.
Of more concern is she just had two units of blood a week ago. Her level was 27 and that transfusion brought it up to 31. She had her blood checked as usual and they told her she needed to come in for a shot today. She didn't ask what her level was but she will ask today. This is getting scary. It just keeps dropping. I say 'blood oxygen level' but I am really clueless as to what that means.
I'll update after she gets results from 1/26.

Mom had her sleep clinic last night to fit a mask and get the right level of air pressure. Got her at 5:45am. Asked her how she did, and in her own words, she said "I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy." Yep, I was shocked to say the least. Turns out she started okay and was asleep, then they raised the air pressure, she said she felt a shock on her upper lip, but the tech seemed confused about that (static electricity?). After that she was up most of the night. She picks up her unit on 2/12. Told her that she needed to remember that she did initially fall asleep and if they hadn't raised the pressure she probably would have slept great. Guess we'll plan on spending the night when she first uses it at home.

I agree my dad finally was given one in hospital and was amazed at how much better he felt in morning not dry and sore like at home.

My sister=in=;aw wass told she had sleep apnea and got the machine to use. She said she could not stand it and got very little sleep using it and took it back. She is happy with her decision. I hope she does ok.
