Actually, I was "activated" today!  :yahoo;   I originally made the list on Dec. 5, 2007.  However, now I can be called!  I guess I better pack my suitcase!

Everyone asks if I have a bag packed as well.  I figured why bother - if they call, I'll send someone to Walmart to buy me jammies and a toothbrush.  As long as I'm getting a kidney, I'll make do without my stuff!

Welcome to the club - hope you're not in it for long!  ;D

I pray they call you!! We don't have enough calls going out to all of you. I wish that every pt. would get a call, this would be the best way I could be without a job. An loving the idea that Dialysis would not longer be necessary for anyone. GOOD LUCK!! :grouphug;

I just thought of a good question...

What shows up on your caller ID when "the list" calls?     :thx;

kelly, when I was put on the list, my coordinator said he would be the one to call, but it may not show up as his normal phone number, since it may be after office hours or he may not be in the office for some reason. I got two calls within a month, both after hours. One was my regular coordinator, and one was a woman he worked with...never did get an explanation as to why...plus she called my husband's cell, not mine.

As for packing a bag, I know it's different for everyone, but each time I had an overnight wait before I needed to worry about being at the hospital. One call came at about 1:00 am, and I would get another call about eight hours after that telling me to go on to the hospital. The other call came at about 9:30 pm with a follow-up at at 9:00 am telling me to be at the hospital around noon. You should have time to pack after the call. Plus remember, it's a lot of hurry up and wait once you get to the hospital due to the final cross-match.

Anyway, congrats on getting activated! Here's to a quick call!!!  :beer1;

   :2thumbsup;

Here's another question (sorry) for those of you who have received "the call" - when you receive the call how much information do they already have as far as "match"?  I now have to have my blood drawn every two weeks.  I know they use that in the process of matching, but I was just curious if they tell you when they call that they have a "perfect match" or whatever.

:thx; again!

Hi Kelly,
When I got my call, I was told the age and sex of the donor. I was told that we were a good match. I found out later we were a three out of six match. The deciding factor was that both of us had similiar and low antibody counts. I didn't have my bag packed. I figured the elastic in my underwear would dry rot before I was called. I had read statics on UMOS and thought I had a 5 year or more wait. My wait was 6 weeks. Good Luck to you!
