Hi, my name is Tanis. I'm a 29 year old mother of four children.(All Boys). I started dialysis on August 15th 2007. I am currently doing P.D. Which I fine is better than hemo. I didn't like the traveling, and how tired i felt after Hemo. I found your website by browsing around the internet on kidney diseases, at my friends house. I just got a computer, now i could meet diffrent people that are going through the same thing that i'm going through. Being on Dialysis, I felt alone, because most of the people i know that are on dialysis are old.
When i first found out i had a kidney disease i was pregnant with my last son Skylar. I had him at 27 weeks, he was 2 pounds and 10 ounces. My blood pressure was out of whack and everything. I was so scared. So anyways i had my baby and then 1 month later they did a kidney biopsy to find out what disease it was. I was Lupus. This was March 2005 when they performed the test. I remember feeling like my life had just ended. When is was growing up my biggest fear was getting sick, and it really happened. Anyways i lived for three years without being on dialysis and taking all diffrent kinds of medication. First they started me on high doses of predinsone, than slowly brought me down. Now i take 5 mls. I was taking cyclophosmite by I.V for 6 months. Than Cell cept which didn't agree with me. Than i took Imuran that didn't agree with me either. It was dropping my hemoglobin, i had six blood transfusions because of that. So finally my kidney doctor started me on a diffrent mediction for my Lupus. (but i can't remember what i's called). And blood pressure pills, and viatamins.
When i first started dialysis i started Hemo. I was so not happy about it. The day they put in the catheter into my neck i cried. I cried all day long, i was mad at were they put the catheter, but they told me that was were they put it if it is only temporarey. I was to be starting pd. I did hemo for 2 months than i started pd. I wasn't happy about that either. I wasn't happy about any of it because i was so young, and i have 4 children to raise. Now I am happy were i am now. Pd dialysis is good, I do the cycler. It free's my days, and i like that because i get to spend my time with my kids, and my husband can work. Well i'm looking forward to meeting new people.

Are you on the cycler or manual?
