Me with Baron von Fresenius

« on: January 09, 2008, 01:23:52 PM »

I finally got the results of the vein mapping that was done on my right arm, and my vascular surgeon thought it was really good, and he's going to attempt a fistula in my right upper arm. I had a failed fistula attempt in my left forearm, but this time we're going straight for the upper arm. The surgery is scheduled for Monday morning if there is no delay (my vascular surgeon is also the main transplant surgeon and the last time I was in for a fistula attempt it was delayed two days because he had three kidney transplants to do). I really hope this is a good one, because I'm getting sick of access problems. I also hope I can get a good fistula so I can do buttonholes, and it wouldn't be as hard for other people to learn how to stick me if I'm unable. I try to give an update on how it goes.

Good luck to you, Adam!  My husband also had
access problems, he had two fistula attempts, one
on his wrist, the other on his forearm- finally got
one put in the upper arm- and the thrill is very,
very strong, so far the Dr says it is doing very well!
I hope this goes easy for you, and you have no
further problems, access issues are terribly worrying.

Good luck Adam!  I had one fail in the left arm.... then I went to Dallas to have a specialist do the one in my right arm.  It works great!

Good Luck Adam_W,

Hopefully this will be the end of your access problems. I'll be thinking of you on Monday. Try to enjoy this weekend.  :grouphug;

Well, I just had the surgery today and it went fairly well. I can't feel the thrill or hear the bruit yet, but I know with some people it takes time for those to be noticeable. My arm hurts like hell, and I'm still kind of woozy, so I'll go into more details when I feel better.

Get on your NxStage asap - the drugs won't clear until you've had a couple of runs!
