So what's on your bucket list?

Or life list, if you prefer!  Smithsonian has an article this month of the 28 places they think you should visit before you die.  The only one of them I've been to is the Grand Canyon.  Guess I better get busy!

So far - I can cross off hot air ballooning, para-sailing, and sky diving, seeing the Grand Canyon, the Atlantic ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.  I've climbed up the Statue of Liberty, went to the observation deck of the WTC, and toured the Metropolitan Museum of Art, seen the Wall in DC, and got a small start at touring the Smithsonian, among other things.

So I still want to see the Pacific, finish my Smithsonian tour, visit the Louvre, go to Australia, and take a cruise to Alaska - at a bare minimum!  Right, all I need is a kidney and winning lotto ticket. . .

I have been to the Louvre and the Grand Canyon.
Would love to see the Great Wall, the Pyramids, and the Great Barrier Reef and Venice.

I am happy if i can just get up and do a little house cleaning and maybe go do a little grocery shopping, maybe go to a movie, those are all my little pleasures in life.  I have no desires to go anywhere special or see anything that i cannot see in a photo or on the net or on T.V.   But just dont let me know that we are having another meet in Vegas and i'll be there in a heartbeat

I got my son a book called 501 destinations to visit before you die.  I realized how fortunate I am as I looked through the book.  Because of my husbands job, we have had the privilege of traveling.  Always on a budget!  We have explored a lot of countries in Europe--staying at rooms in farm houses, bed and breakfast in Holland, room over a pub in Brussells, quaint hotel in London, camped on the beaches of Hawaii (younger days), a small hotel with the Eiffel Tower view from our room. Been all over our wonderful country; son lived in DC so we were regulars at all the museums. Love California. San Francisco and nearby Muir Woods, Yosemite, Mt. Ranier, Mt. St. Helens, Vancover (World's Fair), Alcapolco.  My favorite cities to drive to are Charleston, Savannah and St. Augustine.  Love Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon.  Been to several islands in the Caribbean.  Watched the lava flows on the big island and swam with the sea turtles.   I can tell you how to go any where CHEAP!  We have had picnic lunches sitting beside a moat in England ( I think it was Ken's castle!), crepes from a street vender on the Seine, cheese and wine in the Italian Alps. Seriously, we picnic a lot and always eat the big meal at lunch--it is cheaper.  My mother was an explorer and instilled the importance of seeing our world. As a teenager, we went to the World's Fair in New York City and stayed at a hostal that was an old army barracks. I remember Mom taking a jar of Tang with us and paper cups and that is what we would drink at the Fair. She also packed sandwiches. We had the excitement of being there, but spent no money on food or drinks. Love New Orleans and hope they fully recover-great city.  NYC and Broadway!  AlohaBeth is there right now! Miami, San Antonio, Memphis, Chicago, Boston, and all points in between. 

 My brother lived in Australia and hope someday I can add that to my list.  Have not been to the Orient---can you imagine how amazing the Great Wall must be?  My neph is from Eygpt and I would love to see all of that area.  Bethlehem, Jeruselum--what it would be like to walk those ancient roads?  And ride a camel!  Africa--a photo safari. How wonderful to see those incredible animals in the wild. The Amazon--the rain forests.  My "bucket" list is very long.  But I do appreciate the fact that I have been able to visit some marvelous places.  I have passed the love of travel on to my children.  My sons backpacked several times in Europe, one studied in Greece, my daughter studied in Vienna and of course, Beth and Hawaii.  My younger sister was on "World Campas Afloat" so she saw the Taj Mahal, Africa, Australia, Fiji,and lots more. Now she lives in a very small town and is married to the town chief of police (Visualize Mayberry).     This is a great thread---made me think how good life has been.

I looked at my bucket list and it was empty , I found a hole in the bucket .
I have lived on the West Coast and the East Coast . I have been to the grand Canyon . Yosemite , And Yellow Stone parks
I have flown in a Jumbo Jet , a Cessna and a Helicopter .  I have been to everytype of Professional Sports game there is
and I have traveled the USA by train .
I have Loved and I have been loved ....
Life is good , everything else now is pure gravy ....

My list now entails raising my Son and making him the best person he can be and with the good lords help
I will succeed.

Oh Paris....  Do you hear that sound?  It is my heart melting!  How sweet.  We missed each other while she was in NYC for NYE - but it sounds like she had amazing time.  And I reminded her that I'll be here when she comes back.

Now on to my Bucket List...

I want to...

Spend a Burns Night in the Scottish Highlands at Glen Eagles - the whole scene - formal dressing for dinner- piping in the haggis (which I WON'T eat - there is a veggie version (even though I am truly a carnivore)), Breakfast on silver, butler service, turn down,  a real formal highland weekend.

Spend a month one summer on the coast of Maine (or Canada) - no work, just sailing, swimming and enjoying the season.

Spend a month touring Italy and the Adriatic Coast (September - October)

I still haven't driven cross country - so, I think that route 66 and all that is in between the coasts is on my list as well.

Calgary Stampede (Horses,leather,bars and lots of testosterone - what else could a girl ask for?)

Dollywood (yes, I want to go to Dollywood - even though I've never been to any Disney - I want to rent a cabin in the Appalachian Mountains and go to Dollywood. There, I said it.)

Napa & Alexander & Russian Valleys - eating at the French Laundry and drinking my way through the vineyards.  (two weeks)

The Galway Coast of Ireland - drive from B&B to B&B stopping for a pint every once in a while...

I have travelled every summer my whole life since graduating from college in '83 when I went to Europe. My husband is a teacher and summer is when we love to see the world. We always take our children with us on "road trips" or get on a plane. Since being diagnosed with kidney disease in 2001, I have been pushing even harder to see everything, so fearful of how dialysis may one day put a stop to the freewheeling excursions. Next on my list is Peru to see the Incan ruins. If my travelling ever has to stop, there's always HDTV. My 82 year old father has one and says it's like really being there.

The thing that makes this kidney disease ok is that I feel like I've had an amazing life -- full of travel, interesting work, wonderful friends, and my heart's true partner -- so some bad luck at age 57 is nothing compared to what many people go through. Here on the wet coast of Canada in January, my bucket list consists of wishing for another sunny day... and another one, and another one, and another one!

3. finish reading the whole bible
4. write a thank you letter to those I love

6. do the Bay to Breakers

i've thought about this many times. while there are places i would like to go, i've never thought it necessary to make a list. in reality the only list i'm really interested in i have no control over. living long enough to see my greatgrandchildren.  my mother has 4, i think she is an extremely lucky lady and very blessed.
