There's nothing like having tubes shoved into your body, is there?
I really hope this one stays for Les. I've had only 2, and I hate going for any kind of "procedure".
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm on nocturnal home hemodialysis, so I do all my own treatments at home. I started out with a line, and it was working great, but as usual, I kept getting pressured into getting a fistula. I had my fistula surgery scheduled 5 times. I git bumped 3 times for other surgeries and once because I had my best friend's funeral to attend. I finally got the surgery done on the 5th attempt. I was sick for 2 days afterwards because of the medication they pumped into me during the surgery. Then, a week after I got the stitches out after having my catheter removed, my fistula failed. They tried to bring it back, but couldn't, and when the doctor asked if I had any problems with my line, and I said none at all, he seemed upset, almost as if he thought I should have just kept the line if it as working so well. I was so distraught over that, I couldn't go to work for a week, and have been back to using a line for the past year and a half. I have been lucky that I have had no serious issues with it, and have NEVER gotten an infection...I take extremely good care of my line and I make sure the dressing I put on stays clean, and promptly change it when needed. Yet, I still get pressure from other attending doctors during my visits about getting a fistula, but not from my own nephrologist or the nurses.
