Kidney patients get more cover
Universal healthcare members in the last stage of chronic kidney disease will be entitled to regular peritoneal dialysis starting on January 1 at 23 hospitals nationwide.

This additional coverage would be expanded to all provinces by October 1, Public Health Minister Mongkol Na Songkhla said yesterday.

The scheme's kidney patients who did not to shift from hemodialysis to peritoneal dialysis must pay about one-third of their treatment charges while new patients wanting hemodialysis must pay the full bill on their own, he said.

Mongkol told a conference  that the Cabinet on October 30 extended the scheme to kidney transplants and regular peritoneal dialysis for new and old members suffering from the last phase of chronic kidney disease.

The first 23 hospitals include Maharat Nakhon Chiang Mai Hospital, Buddhashinnarat Hospital in Phitsanulok, Ra-yong Hospital, Khon Kaen's Srinakarin Hospital and Bang-kok's Ban Phaew Phronmmit Hospital.

I don't understand why they would only cover PD. I love PD, and would never choose hemo over it, but my body and my health allows me to have a choice...what about those who are unable to do PD?? It seems they're being penalized for something they can't control.
