Me with Baron von Fresenius

« on: December 26, 2007, 08:49:07 PM »

I've been having a steadily increasing amount of incidents with my blood sugar dropping, including a few that ended with me almost or completely collapsing. I talked to my doctor, and he diagnosed me with hypoglycemia, like my brother has.  I'm not overly worried about it in the short term because it's relatively easy to monitor and control, but I know that it is very possible for us to develop diabetes later on. Yuck, one more thing to add to the list of "secondary" medical conditions I've developed since my kidneys died.

Time to stock up on sugary candy to keep with you at all times.  The dietitians always recommend lifesavers, but I prefer smarties.  I like lifesavers too much to need the temptation around all the time!

Sorry you've got one more problem to deal with.

Adam, that does suck!! As jbeany says, stock up on sugary stuff, you're gonna need it!  I found that protein after an attack really helped stabilize me  Some chicken, a plain burger, something of that nature.

I'm sorry Adam, that's too bad.  At least it's something you know about.  And since you are on NxStage, so you can eat the high protein, low carb diet that makes blood glucose stay pretty even.

That sucks Adam, hopefully it will not turn into diabetes. Low blood sugars I think are one of the worst feelings in the world  :grouphug;
