Wind Power

I went to a town in Washington State close to Walla Walla.  It is windy there all the time.  Someone got smart and there is now a project to put all these huge wind turbines on the bluffs to generate power.  There are close to 230 so far.  They are all white and sleek looking.  They are placed right in the crops so the farmers just farm around the base.  The farmer gets paid for having them on their land.  (Probably not enough, but more than peas).  I just thought it was a great idea.  We stopped and shut off the car and you could barley hear them.  Like ducks flying.  I just love it when someone tries to break in on big business.  Maybe this is big business too, but I bet the hydro people are not happy. 

What about wind powered cars.  Once you get going the wind could just generate power to keep you going.

Of course there are people against these giant wind turbines around this town.  It ruins their view etc....

We have turbines in the pass in Palm Springs.  It is always windy there. The turbines are beginning to provide a lot of the valleys power. You can take a tour of the area.

Here's one in Pennsylvania. So far PA is the leader on the East coast using wind turbines.
Wouldn't it be great to own your own turbine, you can even sell the energy you don't use back to the electric company.

We have an area in Wisconsin North of Milwaukee where there are 80 of them. They help keep the energy costs down, They are high enough as it is.

I saw acres and acres on the drive from LA to Florida- they are strangely beautiful.

East of San Francisco there is a "field" of them.  Great resource and I think we need more.

About 3 miles from us there is a plant that produces the turbines and blades. It is an amazing sight to see the trucks pulling out onto the highways. The blades are huge. We have windmills on our mountain ridges. Very cool to see. We can see from miles away.

The hills and fields in Palm Spring were covered by them in the early 80's, when they were constructed as tax shelter investments (or so I heard.)

They are a really interesting way to create your own electricity along with solar panels if you have the money to be able to afford the amount you would need to actually run your house and sell some back to the electric company.  Of course the more wind and sunshine you have the better.  The only problem I have with the windmills is their effect on the wildlife.  Birds and bats die like crazy on these things when they fly into them.  I think they are a great idea but need to be put in areas that aren't affecting the wildlife as much as most of them do now.
