I was wondering if pneumonia was common among us ESRD patients, I have had a cold for weeks now and seem to be drowning in fluids at night

Do you have extra fluid on?   You can feel like that if you do.  Sometimes the fluid collects in your lungs or around your heart.

If you haven't seen a doctor lately, I would as soon as possible. A cold lasting that long could be something else.  :cuddle;

Diagnosed 4 years ago with FSGS and then had pneumonia three times in one year, the last time in the hospital for 5 days.   Never had pneumonia before that.  I did get the pneumonia shot and haven't had problems since.   I do feel mine was all related, but don't know if doctors would agree.  Hope you get some relief.  Please see your doctor. :grouphug;

I would think it was more random than common ..never had pneumonia myself  , i would think it a stronger possibility you have fluid on your lungs which is caused by fluid overload ..have you been drinking more ?

Thinking back I have not had even a cold for the two years I have been on dialysis but then again I had a gall bladder removed, two toes amputated, and a foot amputated. I think I'd rather have the cold  ;D...Boxman

Thanks everyone for your knowledge , had been feeling almost good but  the last week or so old symptoms returned shortness of breath I could not even walk very far and then last nite, worst night ever coughing  vomiting mucus, no sleep. After I posted my wife had me call my clinic Nurse, and I am on the Baxter doing CCPD been using 1-1.5 and 2-2.5 she wants me to use a 4.25 and 2-2.5 and to call her tomorrow.She said it was fluid overload and a trip to the ER would have not helped. Thanks Everyone!

You would more likely to get pneumonia when your immune system is weakened.. which it is with ESRD, but not enough where you should get pneumonia alot. I have Lupus along with ESRD, so I barely have a speck of an immune system, especially with the immunosuppresants. I have had pneumonia twice since my transplant but not strong enough to have to be admitted, just strong enough where I had to get antibiotics. However, on dialysis thats different. I got pneumonia alot, and even got double pneumonia which kept me in the hospital for 45 days straight. Anytime I get a cold, it ALWAYS turns into bronchitis, and almost always turns into pneumonia. I don't think thats the case for just "dialysis" patients in general though.
