Nephrocor™ Introduces Non-Invasive ''Liquid Biopsy'' Test to Fight Kidney Disease

RenalVysionTM is the Next-Generation Urine-Based Test for Early Diagnosis of Renal Injury

GLEN ALLEN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nephrocor™ announces immediate availability of RenalVysion™, the next-generation non-invasive urine-based test for early diagnosis of kidney disease. RenalVysion™ identifies and measures urinary sediment findings not detected in routine urinalysis. These highly specific results allow anatomic localization of injury in the kidney and the severity of disease.

RenalVysion™ incorporates technology that has up to 91% accuracy in diagnosis according to comparative studies with kidney biopsies for glomerular disease. Medical Director of Nephrocor™, William Glass, MD, PhD, MBA, explains: “RenalVysion™ permits the pathologist to distinguish important categories of renal and bladder lesions by integrating urine cytopathlogy and quantitative and qualitative urine chemistries. RenalVysion™ is often referred to as a ‘liquid biopsy’ since it can assist physicians to monitor acute and chronic renal diseases. This test provides the clinician with critical information that can provide diagnostic insight and inform therapeutic decisions.”

An estimated 20 million Americans have undetected kidney disease, yet accurate tests for early diagnosis are lacking. Biopsy is an expensive invasive technique that is often used only in late stages of disease. RenalVysion™ allows early diagnosis, thereby optimizing the likelihood of success with kidney-sparing treatment. Dr. Anthony Brown of Nephrology and Hypertension Associates of New Jersey adds, “RenalVysion has confirmed and solidified clinical diagnoses with excellent correlation with biopsy specimens. Additionally, RenalVysion in particular has identified other diagnoses that are not clinically suspected.”
