New Shoes

I bought apair of Reeboks this afternoon. Wow! I can feel the shoe instead of the concrete again! It always surprises me when I have worn out a pair of tennis shoes. I buy good tennis shoes, walking shoes because I am on concrete all day long. I wear them every day all day long. So it takes 6 to 9 months for me to kill a pair of shoes. Sometimes I can get a year our of them. The last pair needs a burial. I wore them out from the bottom up. I wore the inside of the shoe out. I had a metal strip coming out of the back of the heal area. It was time to replace them. I know, a silly thing that makes me happy!

This might be slightly off topic...
Nike just came out with a new shoe design - it is designed for Ahemerican Indians. Wider foot, more triangular is what they say. Yeah, Nike is great at marketing but the cool thing is, part of the proceeds will go to help overweight American Indian kids..they are also offered to the reservation kids at "deep discounts."
BTW...I always loved getting new tennies!

"New Shoes" by Paolo Nutini
Woke up cold one Tuesday,
I'm looking tired and feeling quite sick,
I felt like there was something missing in my day to day life,
So I quickly opened the wardrobe,
Pulled out some jeans and a T-Shirt that seemed clean,
Topped it off with a pair of old shoes,
That were ripped around the seams,
And I thought these shoes just don't suit me.
[CHORUS:]
Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling,
It's so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
But long on time,
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
And I'm running late,
And I don't need an excuse,
'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes.
Woke up late one Thursday,
And I'm seeing stars as I'm rubbing my eyes,
And I felt like there were two days missing,
As I focused on the time,
And I made my way to the kitchen,
But I had to stop from the shock of what I found,
A room full of all off my friends dancing round and round,
And I thought hello new shoes,
Bye bye them blues.
[CHORUS]
Take me wandering through these streets,
Where bright lights and angels meet,
Stone to stone they take me on,
I'm walking to the break of dawn. [x2]
I really like this song. . .

I was thinking today about new school shoes. It was so exciting to get them. It seemed like you could run faster and jump higher in them. But after a summer of flip flops or barefoot, the first few weeks of school were sweaty in new shoes and new socks,

My Dad would wait in the parking lot with the newspaper and some liquid refreshment and wait for us. He was always so happy on the ride home. We would eat out (something we hardly ever did). At Texas Hot Dogs.

I remember as a young child I'd get a pair of new shoes and was never allowed to wear them for about six months. Whenever I started to put them on my mum would say
'You can't wear those'
'Why mum?
'Because they're NEW!'
