We have a Betta as well and never have this problem either.  What kind of water are you using because that could be the cause?  I would suggest going to the store and buying bottled water instead of using tap water if you are using tap water now.  The 1 gallon milk jugs of natural spring water are what you should look for.  We don't use a tablet, but we do have some drops that we put in the water.  Also as others have said DO NOT put anthing else in that tank with the beta or it will continue to attack it until one of them is dead.  There is a very good reason they call them fighting fish.  Good luck.

As I mentioned earlier, I have 2 fish tanks. They are exactly the same, except the color. I used the same kind of gravel for each one, same kind of decorations for each one, same kind of fish for each one, same filter, same water, same food, same cleaner, same drops, same everything. They are in different bedrooms, but perfectly the same. I am only having this problem in 1 fish tank, not the other one. I already know not to put anything with them, which is why they are both alone, hehe. I will be buying the tablets tomorrow and try that in her fish tank.. see if does the trick or not.  :thumbup;

Angela, is the one that's growing the stuff near a window that gets more sunlight than the other? Ours sits in front of a window, and my husband seems to think that the added light might contribute to the problem.

Take a bottle of aquarium water to a pet shop that sells fishes and ask them for help. There are chemicals to fix all kinds of problems.  Also, try taking half the water out of the tank and discard it. Replace it with fresh water.

No, the tank doesn't sit by a window.

As for changing the water, yes, i was doing the changing half the water in the tank thing once a week, however today I cleaned the whole tank, discarded all the old water, cleaned the tank before adding new water, cleaned the filter and all the decorations and so on. I go to town tomorrow, and I will get some tablets and see if that helps any, if not I shall take a sample of the water to a pet store when i am able to get a ride to one.
