This is the moment  - this is the day – When I send all my doubts and demons on their way!!!

Yes, “This is the Moment” is one of my favorite songs.  It is from the Jeykll and Hyde play.

I am scheduled for a kidney transplant on Wednesday, Sept. 12.  I am blessed to have a friend who was a match and she is graciously giving me a great gift.  I’m so nervous about this.  I’ve had operations before – so it really isn’t the operation making me nervous, it is the fact that another person is undergoing an operation on my behalf.  My fears are centered around the acceptance of the kidney.  My doctors have no doubt at all.  Wish I could share their enthusiasm.  I would be devastated if my body rejected this kidney.  My friend has gone through endless testing and in some cases much hassle to get to the approval.

I've read with great interest the other stories here.  I really do look forward to having a great success story to share.

So, everyone, "this is the moment, this is the time, when the momentum and the moment are in rhyme........ "this is the day - see it sparkle and shine"

Slywalker, that's awesome!!!!  :yahoo;  :yahoo;  :yahoo; I'm so excited for you and I will keep you and your friend in my prayers. I know what you mean about the nerves of knowing someone is going through an operation on your behalf, my mom was my donor. I still think about questions like , what if something happens to her later on and she would have been better with two kidneys? What if the kidney fails soon,then she'll be devastated...etc. But luckily, as long as the donor takes good care of their health, chances are slim of anything really happening to them. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!  :cuddle;  :2thumbsup;

Very good luck to you!  :thumbup;

My first transplant was also a live donor... my mom. I wasn't worried once wether the kidney would not work... I guess because I just had so much hope and the match was so good, my doctors and my mom put my mind at ease.

I hope you come back with a great transplant story! :)

Statistics show that there are no clinically significant negative health effects on kidney donors, nor is their lifespan reduced by the donation.  The operation for a kidney transplant is one of the most routine and safest operations there is, with a 1 in 3000 death rate, which is very low.  The odds of rejecting a new kidney in the short term are small if 1) it is from a live donor; 2) it is a good HLA match; 3) the creatine level of the patient is monitored carefully and the immunosuppressive drugs adjusted accordingly.  The real problem today with kidney transplants is not rejection but chronic allograft nephropathy, which is the gradual decline in function of the transplanted kidney over time.  Both the cause and the cure for this condition are unknown, so the lifespan of the kidney is a matter of luck.

They canceled me today!  I received a call in the middle of the night that an emergency kidney/pancreas operation needed to be done and I was bumped.  I am staying tuned.  The transplant coordinator is suppose to call back with another time/date.  What a mix of emotions.

Thanks for all the support.  I'll let you know when my story can continue.
