How LUCKY We Are!
My wife and I had been discussing adopting
a pet for some time, even before we married.
During our honeymoon, my wife was not
feeling well. We returned home and within 72
hours we learned that she was in kidney failure,
was starting dialysis and needed a transplant.
With my wife in and out of the hospital
and trying to keep things normal for a little
boy dealing with many new
changes, adopting a pet was
the last thing on my mind. As
things finally settled into routine
with my wife’s dialysis and
our son’s school schedule we
again discussed a pet. My wife
discussed pet options with her
transplant coordinator and a
cat or bird was just not advisable
due to bacteria concerns
from droppings. So we settled
on a dog...but where and how
to adopt with our schedules.
I noticed that Comcast has pet adoption
information in their “On Demand” menu, so
I checked it out. I was thoroughly impressed
with how dedicated everyone came across as
they presented the animals for the video clips.
What grabbed me was that PAWS Atlanta
was taking the time to identify each animal’s
“personality” traits and suggesting the types of
homes each would be most compatible with.
Everyone at PAWS Atlanta kept talking about
Lucky and how wonderful he was with kids.
I wasn’t very hopeful since he was big and
had such long hair; I dreaded the thought of
all the work cleaning hair off of every piece
of furniture we owned, but I thought I’d
give him an honest chance — I’m glad I did.
Lucky turned out to get along fabulously with
the whole family and especially our son; they
still chase each other in the
back yard. My wife and
I are amazed at just how
wonderful a dog we found
in Lucky and we tell each
other several times a week
how happy we are with
him. Lucky now helps us
wake our son in the mornings
and sometimes he
even joins us for bedtime
prayers. Often, when
letting him out in the
morning, he has to stop in our son’s room and
check on him before we can go downstairs.
This dog is smart, loving, protective and loyal.
Everyone who meets Lucky is impressed with
how gentle, playful, and affectionate he is.
Thank you PAWS Atlanta for doing what you
do and knowing your animals as well as you
do. Your recommendation was contrary to
what I thought I wanted and you were 100%
