Well, do you think there will ever be a brain transplant?  Your body is shot and you get the call that a young person is brain dead.  Could they just put your brain in that head?

Discuss??

Well....................what if you're declared "body dead" since its shot, and your brain is put into a brain dead person? ???

Bizzarre but that would be kinda cool. What I wonder though is would you think the way you used to or the way the brain thought?

Wattle's trying to get a list of questions to ask for a kidney transplant.  Just imagine the questions you would have for a brain transplant!  How old is the donor takes on a whole new meaning!  And would you want an ECD?  ;D

I wouldn't mind being 16 again with another body.  I wouldn't want to live through what I've lived through again with this one.

Brain no way for a  number of reasons.  A kidney is really just sort of a brain dead machine.  It makes urine, helps with red blood cell production, and regulates blood pressure.  Connecting a new one to your body is easier than plugging in a new Tiivo.  Blood in, blood out, and urine out and it is a done deal.

The brain is totally unique and billions of times more complex...it contains all the thoughts, mental ability, learned memories etc. of it's original owner.  You would never be able to connect the myriad blood vessels, optic nerves, auditory nerves, spinal cord yada yada that would be needed to make it work. In fact we know that those kinds connections are physically impossible to make.  Think of people with spinal cord injuries, once broken, never fixed.  Even if you could when you finished the recipient would be someone else.

The brain doesn't allow cold storage time like a kidney and other organs do either.  You can keep a kidney on ice for a day and a half or longer.  With a brain no blood for five minutes and it is gone.  Nice thought but it ain't gonna happen so take good care of the one you were born with!

This thread was just what I needed today!! Hillarity restores Humility!! I was sorta thinkin' there were a couple of people's brains I'd like to put on ice;  :boxing; ,as well as, what a beautiful dream it would be to have a brain transplant- especially since I'm feeling alot lately like my brain is just about the ONLY thing that hasn't begun to show wear as of yet!! lol!! Even better, perhaps, assuming it WAS possible, we could actually recommend people for brain transplants!! I'm working on my first real rant, but I'm confused as to which category I should put it in??? It's kind of along the lines of being "full up" with being made to feel as if I'm not greatful enough, any suggestions?

Knowing what I know now about life, it might be fun to try it all over again in a younger body.  I might be daring and do new things.

I would love a brain transplant. A brain that would be clear of your past pain and allow you to start over. I know it can't be done but it would be nice if they could some how erase your bad memories. I wouldn't mind staying on dialysis if they could do that.

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

From Wikipedia ---  A whole-body transplant, or brain transplant, moves the brain of one being into the body of another. It is a procedure distinct from head transplant, which involves transferring the entire head to a new body, as opposed to the brain only.

It would seem to make sense, that if someone is brain dead, and no longer needs their body, and another person needs a good body, why not do the brain transplant. Probably would require a ton of immunsuppressants - a brain rejection would be a real bummer!
