I think the most important "secret" is the one talked about in the article - be proactive and a part of your medical team. By this I mean take an active interest in your health and what you can do to make the most of it.

The way I see it is that it's MY body not the nurses or the docs or anything.. if I don't give a damn about it then why should I expect anyone else to? So I get the results of labs and go over them (my last lot are very good except for Calcium which is a bit high). I almost always talk to the nurses about where things are at and I have the final say on the UF rate or other settings on my machine (and by now the nurses understand that I seem to have a fair grip on what is going on so accept what I request, or if they ask why I have wanted something in particular if I explain they are ok with it).

The other "secret" I think is to do the best to remain positive. Sometimes it is very hard specially when you can see nothing but dialysis ongoing with the diet and fluid restrictions and all the rest that we know so well.. but I think attitude can do as much help/damage as other things.

Not to say I am perfect or anything.. far from it (guess who is craving a coke right now? ).. but I definitely think an active interest and participatin in one's own health and care, and a positive attitude will go a long way to dealing with things well.

That cat will be sooooo spoiled RichardMel,  is it possible to love something so much and you dont even have it yet?  My stress level does need some kitty attention though, i have been patiently waiting, now, it is time

WTF....$16.95  I rather use that on some other magazines which would give me more enjoyment than reading the book to remind myself of my sickness.  What a bunch of bullcrap....Just imagine if the $$$$ he rolls in with the book. Blip................

I do love Sheila's belts and she been very supportive, via phone, and helped me work through some PD issues.  I do like her very much.   I have a copy of this CD though and, well, she needs to stick to making PD belts.  The soundtrack playing behind her talking is so unbelievably corny and definitely good for a few laughs, although it's not meant to be funny.  I don't think I can upload and post snippets without breaking some copyright law.  It's up for grabs if anyone wants it though.
