Got kidney?

« on: April 30, 2007, 07:59:47 AM »

Hi Everyone:
My name is Debbie.  I'm from Los Angeles, California.  Mother of 3, Grandmother of 3.   I linked to this website while surfing the web looking for info on dialysis.  I am NOT on dialysis;  don't even have problems with my kidneys.  "So what are you doing here?" you ask.
Well, I am in the process of undergoing testing to become a kidney donor to a gentleman I met on Matchingdonors.com.  He is not yet on dialysis, but...close!  I really wanted to get a feel for what dialysis patients go through.  And, since he is not yet there...I ended up here out of wanting to educate myself.  Boy, am I getting an education!    I knew it was bad but I never realized just how dialysis impacts your lives.  Wish I could hug each and every one of you!    :grouphug;   Keep laughing and smiling.  I'm a firm believer that "Laughter is the best medicine."
Ciao!

Debbie, you are an Angel.  How wonderful to give such a gift.  He will never know (hopefully) what you are saving him from.  Thank you for saving one person from dialysis.

Blessings to you both.

Hello Debbie and welcome to ihatedialysis.com.  Yes, you are indeed a hero even for just considering being a donor.  I hope you find out all you need to know here, but to put it bluntly if i may, dialysis = torture,  if you can help someone before they need dialysis then more power to you my friend, i hope and pray that all works out for you and the lucky recipient.  Please keep us posted,  there is a special section for Transplant Stories and i am sure we would all love to hear how your journey began and how it ends ;)  We love happy endings... Hope to hear from you soon  :2thumbsup;

Hi Debbie,
Welcome! This is a great site to learn more about what kidney patients go through! My daughter received a transplant from a generous altruistic donor who came to California from Ohio to donate to her. It has been a remarkable experience and she is now part of our family (and part of her is IN our family heheheh!) Jenna was on dialysis for 3 years and the last 3 months without it has been heaven! You are giving a wonderful gift and I admire you for doing so! If you haven't already you can check out more info about Living Donors at http://www.livingdonorsonline.org - they also will get you a buddy, a person who has donated who will answer any questions you have.

 :2thumbsup;    Kudos to you, Debbie!  What a big heart you have and you can do so much for one person by donating and maybe even help countless others by sharing your story.  Let your local papers do a story on the two of you maybe or contact your favorite magazine, like Oprah's.  They look for human interest stories like yours and can reach so many more people.  Thank you for your interest in what our lives entail and wanting to help someone live a more normal life!     :welcomesign;
