That's another fine TARDIS you got me into Stanley

« on: December 24, 2018, 01:30:23 PM »

Yesterday (Sunday) was my last session before Christmas. Turned up at the clinic and had to wait to weigh myself because the scales were being used by an elf who was weighing a wheelchair.

Once in the ward I found all the nurses dressed as elves. (Aside for British members: This was obviously due to the fact that my dialysis is done by "The National Elf Service".) The clinic sister was dressed as Father Christmas.

Then during dialysis two of these elf nurses brought us each a mince pie and a glass of sherry. And stood beside each bed singing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas."

One of the people on the transport back with me had got drunk on the sherry, if she hadn't been in a wheelchair, she would have been dancing all the way home.

Happy Christmas Everyone.

To All
Merry Christmas.  I am in the process of getting ready to have an AV Fistula and soon start dialysis and was thinkng this morning about what it will be like at Chrstmas time when I start.  Nice to see such positive attitudes.  Helps me  feel I CAN do this (even though I am scared and don't want to, but WILL)
Again MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!

I wish you the best of luck and I am sure you can take it on and don't forget, without dialysis you would approach your last days right now. That thought helped me a lot to approach and take on dialysis and then I got used to it very quickly, especially since I made it as easy for myself as is possible. I also noticed that if I really adhere to dialysis-rules i.e. diet and liquid-restrictions, it gets even easier, because that makes it so much easier for the body to take on dialysis.
Best of luck-wishes from Kristina and Merry Christmas and a lucky 2019 to you.  :grouphug;

In a pretty paper bag we received a measuring cup, measuring spoons and 2 small candy canes, along with recipe cards.

Ditto, Fresenius here in Missouri.

Todays treatment I really fell off the wagon.

Christmas Eve is Daughters Birthday.  since Wife is in the Nursing Home it was up to me to order the Cake this year.   I nailed it.   White, Strawberry filled.  I asked the Lady to mix her icings, Butter Cream and Cream Cheese.  I wasn't sweet and it wasn't heavily cream cheese.  It worked out well.  I also took along two half gallons of egg nog.  I maybe should have left one home.

Note:   I did.  The third one.

Daughter cooked, both days.  I ate.  Both days.   And drank, way too much, Both days.

This mornings weigh-in I was over TWICE my usual week-end gain.   Oh Qwap!

I was surprised I managed to take off 3 without cramping in the chair.   I did later during my nap.

The 'other' 1.6 will come off Friday.   I am going to have to be really hard on myself not to gain much until then.

Catch-up is hard to do in any game.     Dialysis is a very very serious game to play.

The Fresenius name and logo on the recipe card in the photo is what one would call a clue.

Same at our Fresenius, except someone must have ate my candy canes. You are right Charlie, catching up is hard to do, but every now and again...

Charlie, my dietician told me that if I was going to indulge in anything, cream cheese was the lesser evil.  She said that it is actually lower in phosphorus that regular cheese so i could have more of it.  Cheesecake is now less of a nono than it used to be. *G*

Although, at the moment, I'm indulging in the the contents of the can of Quality Street chocolates that was left on the kitchen table...  :oops;

I can do 1 to 2 oz of cream cheese or goat cheese without messing up my numbers. Or 1 to 2 tbsp of sour cream.   Cool whip is pretty much free if you aren't diabetic. With a ring or three of pineapple and one of the above, you can conjure up a decent fruit salad or dessert.

No snack like a saltine cracker with a smear of cream cheese and a dot of hot sauce on it. Or Ritz, Captain's Wafers, Club, any type cracker.

This is the way I look at this diet aspect of Dialysis. It is important, you do need to monitor but I am not going to kill myself over NOT HAVING SOMETHING I REALLY WANT. I say body too bad I am eating it so deal with it!

That's how I look at things too.  Dialysis appears to be a permanent part of my life, but it's not taking over my life.  I've been doing this long enough to know what I can and can't do, what I can indulge in and what I must avoid.  Case in point: potatoes.  I live in a place where potatoes are a staple.  They are a major export and the potato industry (agriculture, processing, etc) is big business here.  I love them.  I eat potatoes in some way or form 3-4 times a week.  I refuse to presoak, or double boil, or whatever the heck else they want us to do to them.  It ruins the taste.  I compensate by avoiding other high potassium foods, like oranges and bananas.  If you think about it, there is a way around everything.
