The upgrade from SMF 2.0.5 to 2.0.14 has been completed and took about 15 minutes. You can see the version we are on by scrolling to the very bottom of this page.
Interestingly, the dry run I did to test the procedure took 3 hours. The key to speeding it up was to clear the internal error log before the upgrade.
I will be watching
http://simplemachines.org/ for new releases and upgrading to newer production releases as they come out. The fewer "release gaps" we have, the better our security, and the higher the probability of a smooth upgrade.
Version 2.1 is currently in Beta, but I am following the Simple Machines advice of "beta not recommended for production servers".
I was impressed at how "SIMPLE machines forum" lived up to it's name. The upgrade was straightforward and easy.
I did notice one interesting thing - the internal error log on the old version was getting tens of thousands of errors an hour (yes, really). The vast majority of these were the use of deprecated PHP features/functions. The new version does not appear to be generating the same constant stream of error messages.
