I have now been doing PD on my own for about 2 weeks.  I had a very rough start with a fibrin-riddled catheter and slow fills and even slower drains. But now I use heparin on a daily basis and it has made all the difference in the world.

At the end of last week, I hauled in my 4 daily drain bags and 24-hour urine collection for my very first PD adequacy test. I was really nervous to learn my results.  It turns out that I'm very adequate.  :yahoo; Whereas 1.7 is an acceptable number, mine came in at 2.23!!  My PD nurse was very pleased and told me to keep doing what I'm doing.  As I have been short-filling for most of the time (1600 or 1700 ml. per fill) that is good validation that that's fine for me.  For now.  Soon I will have my first PET, and even sooner I will be able to get my neck catheter removed and then can take a shower and wash my hair like a human being (after 3 months of abstinence)! :thumbup;

Good for you!!!  That's terrific (and not merely adequate) news!

Congratulations!

I told you that you could do it!

Like I was saying, PD can be 'adjusted' to your body quite easily.  In time your body will become 'stretched' such that you will be able to use the whole 2 liter fill without difficulty.  Just don't rush it.  Your 'numbers' will continue to improve.

Take Care,
