Peritoneal dialysis: My dextrose bag leaked all over the bed & carpet

I was setting up my cycles for the night and went to open the bag of 1.5% solution to take it out if the outer bag it ships in. I didn't notice some liquid settled in the bottom of the bag and when I opened the outer bag, some of the solution got on my bed, luckily the top sheet is pretty thick and got it before it could seep down to the sheets and mattress. But as I picked up the bag and ran to the sink with it, it flung solution on some of the carpet in my room. I've put a couple of towels down and stepped on them over and over to soak up as much as I can and put the blanket and some towels in the wash. But I'm worried about the carpet. It's a dark purple color and I'm wondering if the solution will stain it.

Hopefully someone doing PD can answer your question as to whether or not PD solution stains (my husband does home hemo, so sorry, we don't know anything about PD). But I can tell you what I like to use for carpet stains: powdered Oxiclean (or generic). Works pretty well. Especially if you have pets....You can look it up on the Internet, I believe there are youtubes. I put some Oxiclean in an old squeeze bottle with warm water, shake it up and then squirt it on the carpet like I'm applying lots of mustard all over a hot dog (sorry, it's late here and I need a snack). Then, I let it sit for 20-30 minutes and gently sop it up with old bath towels. Don't stomp or pound on the bath towels, that will only make the water spread out under the carpeting and you could end up with a moldy carpet and damaged floor. If you have expensive carpeting, you might want to consult a professional first. If you use too much of the Oxiclean, it kind of leaves a whitish spot but you can put a little more water on it after it first dries and see if that gets rid of the white spot. Sometimes it dries leaving a whitish spot but it's usually just the dried powder and you can brush it off/away with a dry towel or vacuum it up. I also like to use Oxiclean on furniture, my cleaning cupboard is never without it. Good luck.

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.

Fortunately our PD soutions do not have any stain making colors in them. They are mostly Kool-Aid, minus the color and flavor, with essential minerals added.
The sugar will leave an area that will stick dust and dirt to it, so it would be best if you could dilute it with straight water and suck it up with any type of wet-vac, a couple of times so as to get out as much of the sugar as possible.
I wouldn't recommend using any type of detergent as you don't know if they will pull any color out of the carpet. Straight water should be fine. If you want to use any type of detergent then look for the carpet cleaning in the markets, READ the label.
I use a 5 gallon bucket for the drain hose. TWICE, I've managed to forget to empty it. Didn't know it until it heard a 'strange' sound, and started looking for where it came from. I found it, quickly. Yeah, my bedroom is carpeted, I have a wet-vac, and I have a carpet shampooer. That area is cleaner than the rest of the house, now.
Spit happens. No big deal. we deal with it and move on, trying NOT to make that mistake again. Til we forget and do it again. So far, not this.....I was going to say year, but I can't. How about not this month, so far. It ain't over and I really could space out again. Just hope not. I hate cleaning carpet at midnight, or later.
