Hi my name is Jack and I'm the caregiver for my wife who is on PD.  She's been on PD for about 11 weeks now.  Prior to that she was on hemo since June.  We just got a cycler about 5 weeks ago and she is doing well.  Her last kinetics showed her at 2.2.  She was 1.8 when we were doing manual exchanges.  Her Dr. and our nurse had a goal of 1.7 for her, so 2.2 makes us and them pretty happy.

Biggest problem right now is trying to get her protein numbers up.  She doesn't eat a lot of meat even though it is in our daily diet.  She doesn't like the bars.  Our nurse told us about Sunkist protein drinks, but it looks like that product has been discontinued.

I'm going to do some posts over in the PD area.  I've done a lot of study on the Baxter cycler and have learned a lot from Baxter's technical support.  Our PD nurse tells everyone that I know more about the cycler than him or our doc.  At times I truly think I do.

Jack

Hi there Jack, and welcome to IHD, great  to have you with us. I also used the cycler for the 2.5 years I was on dialysis and really enjoyed the modality. I thought it gave me more freedom than going the hemo route and did a better job cleaning my system. Hope that you enjoy it here, there are a lot of folks that have great knowledge of the Baxter cycler as well as helping to get your wife's protein levels up.

Welcome to the site Jack

Does your wife like cream cheese? Digestive biscuits (1 gr protein) with cream cheese (2-3 gr) does add up if you eat them as a snack when you don't feel like eating, and they are not too bad on phosphates.

Good luck, Cas

I am a caregiver to my wonderful husband,  He is 4p and started PD October 2013. We have several living donors waiting to be tested for a transplant. Dialysis is a bridge to get us where we need to go.
He had a transplant in November 2019.

Just curious.  I've never heard of digestive biscuits.  What are those and do you have some brand names?

Jack
