I was told two years ago that I have Stage 3 CKD. Seems I had it for a while, but was not told. At that time, my GFR was 40. I went to computer for info on CKD, and have been eating low salt, protein, potassium and phosphorus. Primary Care doctor says I'm doing the right things. Have not been referred to a nephrologist or dietitian, so have to do the best I can. My GFR was 59 in July. Potassium tends to be a little high, so concentrating on lowering that. Phosphorus has never been checked. BUN and creatinine run high sometime. Trying to give my kidneys the best chance I can. Would like to keep them around for a while! Like most of you, I find planning meals a challenge. My husband has Parkinson's, so tends to lose weight easily. He and I are diabetic. He takes medication. I control by diet. Thanks to all who take part here. You are a very caring and encouraging group. Wishing you all a great day!

Welcome to ihd, claudina! Darthvadar is right, we all "get it" here. There are a lot of topics to search through and read, a little of everything but of course it never hurts if you just want to blurt out your thoughts or questions. Many of us if not most have "been there, done that" and there always seems to be somebody here listening or willing to answer. That is why I think of this site as also being a wonderful outlet. You'll find the people on here the most helpful, which is why any tips or advice you may have to offer will also be appreciated. You never know...what one person finds out may be another person's answer or vice versa so please keep posting and sharing! Good luck!

Husband had ESRD with Type I Diabetes -Insulin Dependent.
I was his care-partner for home hemodialysis using Nxstage December 2013-July 2016.
He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.
