Hello, I'm researching hemodialysis at the University of Rochester (New York, USA). I'm hoping to contact people willing to talk with me about their HD experiences. Either Home or center based hemo. Hello Dean and welcome to IHD.

I am not on dialysis yet and never have been, but I sometimes feel like “an old campaigner”, because my kidneys first failed in 1971 (uraemia/coma),
recovered again to ca. ~ 40 % function without the need of dialysis and I have seen many nephrologists and their clinics ever since.
Right now I am again in end stage kidney failure and I am currently undergoing tests for a transplant.
My kidney function is currently between 5 and 7 % kidney function, no dialysis yet ... and fortunately no symptoms yet.

Over the past 43 years it has surprised and dismayed me immensely, that so very little has been achieved to assist kidney patients...
...Over the years I have also made friend and acquaintances, whilst waiting in these nephrology clinics, unfortunately always only for a short time,
because these friends and acquaintances always "faded away" after a short while...

I am writing to beg you to find ways to make life for dialysis patients easier, last longer and perhaps make it a little bit more secure...
... without the constant fear of surviving only for a short time whilst on dialysis...
