There was a time . . .

A long time ago, 1959, in a jungle on the edge of a plateau, in a secret war, in the Army with no qualifications for combat, doing a job usually worked inside a building, on loan to an intelligence agency, in a squad of nine, we hunted. Until we found them. We counted. We identified and we tried to slip away unnoticed. Sometimes we did get away, twice we did not. We killed people before they killed us. We slept on the ground, ate from a bag and we listened. I listened on a radio, I managed the codes, I sent the messages, I located the enemy. My friend did the same work for his squad.
Friends for life.
Talked to him last week.
He died yesterday morning.
He died.
He died in bed.
He just slipped away.

Brothers in Arms.
A bond that most people will never know.
Remember him well.
Be proud of your team's accomplishments, even though they cannot be published, you know you did your job.
Thank you!
