My mom who lives in a (third world country) is a PD patient. The sole medical provider they have over there deal with Baxter. Recently there was a shortage in the minicap (Baxter 5C4466P) so mom had to use the same minicap twice. Despite the careful sterilizing the previously used minicap she started to experience abdominal pain due to infection, so far she has been hospitalized once to be treated from the infection. She felt better for a couple of days then the infection is back  :( So since I live in the US, I thought I would be able to find these minicaps but it turned out to be difficult since Baxter here only supplies US based patients. The next thing I tried ebay, and I was really surprised to find several Baxter products but not the minicap  :banghead; I'd really really appreciate if someone can help.

Thanks

Her MD office can't provide her with a few until she can get her own?  When i got low on minicaps, my dialysis clinic gave me some of theirs that they use to train with until Baxter could ship some more to me.

No, her provider hardly gets her 50% of the needed minicaps :( I'm on a quest to find these minicaps so I can ship it to her until the issue with the provider is resolved.

Unfortunately, I don't know that you will be able to get them for her unless you are a medical professional.  I'm presently trying to get some clamps that are used with my manual solution bags and was told by Baxter that they can't send them to me until my clinic adds them to my prescription.  We're talking about pieces of plastic that are used to control the flow of liquid through plastic tubes!

Good luck on your quest!

Have gone on-line for :minicap (Baxter 5C4466P). Seems that last July. of 2013, there was a recall (info was not clear enough for me to make sense of it)
Why the recall!
What is the function of this item?
Sorry not able to help more at this point in time.

I don't have any information about the recall, but this minicap is used to close the catheter endpoint. Tomorrow, I'll stop by the dialysis clinic in my town and ask if there's any work around. I feel Baxter is being a bit ridiculous with restricting the purchase of these supplies!

I have never had an issue getting my mini caps but, my pesonal experience with Baxter and getting supplies has been  spotty, at best.  Every monthly delivery I've had over iin the past 8 months, they've been out of stock on  at least one of my diasylates.   Typically, I get the out of stock items the next day., which is ivconvenient becasue I have to be home for the delivery.  Customer service always gices some excuse(weather,  a completely different product being recalled, etc.)  as to why this keeps happening.  My  dialysis center has been battling with them on this issue, as well.   I would understand  if it happened occasionally,  but it's happening regularly yo ALOT of people.

The cap has a small sponge inside that is soaked wiih betadine to kill any infectious bacteria that may have gotten onto or just inside the end of the cath connector.

Perhaps a work-around would be to locate a betadine solution of an appropriate strength and re-fresh or add a few drops to any used cap immediately before re-use.
