Apparently, a new thread must be started to introduce myself (maybe there should be one sticky for such?) - anyway: I'm here because my husband, a kidney transplant recipient 15 yrs. ago as of 2/12 has been diagnosed w/a scarred and dying kidney. It's currently at 27%, at 20% he must go on dialysis and back on the transplant list, his graft/fistula in his arm closed up many yrs. ago. He has PKD. Dr. has told him nobody has ever seen quite what is happening to him (2 yrs. ago he had a staph infection on/in? this kidney and got IV antibiotics every day for a month). He has been put on prednisone (initially 3 tabs Sat./Sun./Mon.(today) - his blood sugar was through the roof yesterday and even worse this evening - 407 and 556 ) - he wasn't diabetic before, side effect of the meds. Not sure what else I'm supposed to say here.

Hello, you did just fine. 20 percent is still pretty good. Most go back on dialysis at 10. Question that to the doc. just to see.
Hope you find good support here. This is a great forum.

It may be the rate of kidney declline is time now to start getting ready for dialysis. To have the PD Cath placed, or the graft in his arm, so either has time to heal well enough to ready to begin.
Some of us are very sick even at 20% and started. I did, and I'm very glad that I did. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired all the time. I don't LIKE PD, but I think for me it is far better than going with the needles and Hemo, which if I absolutely HAD TO, I would , as the alternative of no dialysis, well, I rather think I have more time here and thingss to do before giving up.
I hope he gets started again without problems, and he 'perks' up once he begins regular clearing of the toxins.
Let us know, hang around and share when you can.
Take Care,
Charlie B (still another new guy).
