Update on evaluation

University of MI sent me a letter after their team met to review my initial evaluation. They are only asking two things before they approve me to be listed: clearance from my psychiatrist (I am bipolar) and proof that I have lost 20 pounds since the date of the evaluation. My psychiatrist has already given me clearance and is sending them a letter this month. I have lost 2 pounds in the week and a half since the evaluation, so I still have 18 pounds to go. The Procrit has raised my hemoglobin enough to really help with the weight loss. I'll have to forgo a lot of the usual holiday goodies, but that is a very small price to pay for getting on the list. Now that I am feeling better I will try to add some exercise to the mix.
My next step is to contact the transplant center in Madison to set up an evaluation for a multiple listing. They may have additional requirements.
I'll let you know how the weight loss goes. I am determined and hopeful that I am on track to getting listed sooner rather than later. I am not going to let a few pounds get in the way of getting on the list.

Wonderful news, tigtink! How are you going about the weight loss process? I have been able to maintain a steady loss of about a pound a week since June by eating smarter, not buying snack food when I shop for groceries and joining a warm water low impact exercise class at my local YMCA. You've made a good start on your 20 pounds, congrats and keep it up! Let me know if you need encouragement or a cheerleader.
Go, tigtink, go!

Whether the glass is half empty or half full is not as important as being thankful there's a glass and grateful there's something in it.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have cut way back on carbs, limited red meat, and added lots of vegetables and salads. I have a sweet tooth so I have sugar free Jello with a dab of whipped cream for dessert. I am more active now that the anemia is better, so my metabolism seems to finally have increased a little. No question losing weight is a huge challenge. I was stuck at a plateau for months until my hemoglobin went up.
