Hi all, my name is Hillary...from Brooklyn, NY.  I just got a chest cath after 4 failed fistula and graft attempts.  I have had dialysis 3 times now and yes, I do hate it, but I am doing my best to get used to everythng. I hate the fact that I had to give up swimming and especially bathing/showering.  The perma cath still hurts like hell even after over a week of getting it.  I am sufering terriby with leg/foot/side/hand cramps both on and off the machine.  I hope it gets easier. DOes it?   Does the fatigue ever go away?  I do not feel any different yet after 3 sessions.

HI hillary  ;D And welcome again  ;)  Though it's my hubby thats on the D machine, i can assure you that it does get easier, and better, and you should soon feel the 'good' (how about better  ;) effects of dialysis.  Its good to see your keeping your attitude as best you can and............ you will in time, get back to swimming etc ;)  That is one of the lesser fun parts of the 'beginnings' i think.  The craving for a shower, and wishes for a good swim. Wishing you all the best in this, and keep sharing here :)  It'll really help ya keep some normal in your life knowing how very many others share your ups and downs.   :cuddle;

Hi Hillary and welcome to IHD.

Next time you get cramps at home try a teaspoon of yellow mustard.  I have tried it twice and it works.  Also, I know tonic water works for cramps.

There are ways to cover your catheter and take a quick shower.  I would fold a wash cloth over it and tape saran wrap or press n seal and tape it sown and take a quick one and try to not get that area wet.  You can't just stand there.  Take a quick one and get out.  You don't want the cath area wet and get infected.
