??? Does anyone do CAPD with Fresenius system ? Laurie now on haemo dialysis but he still has PD catheter in place which we are meant to flush once a week . This has not been done for some time as he has been in hospital with other issues and so much going on we have kept putting it off . Tonight he thought he should get back to normal and start doing the flush . I heated a bag and set it up , Laurie has had a mental block and can not remember how to do it . He always did exchanges himself so I have no clue . When he moves the dial fluid goes straight to drain bag . I think he must be doing something wrong - he thinks catheter is blocked and is having a melt down . Can you help ? Remember he is not doing an exchange but just putting a little fluid in and then draining it out . I do know we have to use 2 sets of bags .

After hooking up you have to FLUSH the air out of the line.  (turn the knob to the first stop (upper right)) for 10 seconds. then open catheter move knob to the FILL (lower right)  when enough fluid has enter the tummy close clamp.  The turn knob to DRAIN (lower left  Don't forget to break the cone because the solution bag will not allow the fluid to come down thr line.  I hope I explained it OK

OH Oh I got that wrong Keep catheter clamp close
At the two dots will start the flush after 6 seconds turn to the fill (three circles) after you have enough fluid in tummy clamp fill line and allow fluid inside tummy to drain.  turn knob to insert pin and cap off.
it's been a long time and I found the instructions for you.

I do not know what I would do without this site ! I even rang the renal ward at laurie's hospital before I asked here and all the nurse would say was that we had to prime the line . Tempers were frayed here and I was at the end of my tether , it was after hours and Laurie was convinced his line was blocked and he was going to get an infection and end up back in hospital .

The dial has four positions,

1 dot  = Drain. Flow goes from peritoneum to drain bag.
2 dots = Fluid flows from fill bag to drain bag to expel air from line (5 to 10 seconds)
3 dots = Fills peritoneum from new bag. Each dot has a slightly different fill rate
4 dots = Closes off flow and pushes blue pin in.

I think that for you to do a flush you need to  hook up the PD tubing (From the belly) to the tubing set.  THEN open the tubing clamp, THEN turn to position 2 dots for 5 seconds (this will drain any air out of the system) THEN turn to 3 dots (this will drain new fluid into Lauries belly)  After you have filled the belly with enough fluid, THEN turn back to 1 dot (this will drain the fluid from the belly to the drain bag. When flow stops turn ALL THE WAY to 4 dots (this will push the blue pin into the PD tubing and seal the tubing.

Hope that helps.
