Peripheral neuropathy

Just started  I have tingling and numbness in my right leg along with occasional pain, which was excruciating for 35 hours this weekend. Now my left leg is starting. I've uppped my Gabapentin (Neurontin) to 200mg 3Xday with minimal relief. Has anyone found anything that really works? I don't want any anti-depressants such as Lyrica because of my job (professional driver). Anyone tried acupuncture?  Any suggestions?

Yes and it does help, just make sure you fine someone from or trained in the orient, the training is different than the ones I've been to that were trained in the USA.

How did you get your peripheral neuropathy diagnosed?   I figured that I have it, but haven't gone to a dr for a formal diagnose or treatment.  Grumpy

Hi I got peripheral neuropathy bad after catching an infection. It drove me mad.
First numbness, then pins and needles, then squeezing clamplike pains, affecting my hands and feet.
I would cry at night because of the pain.
Then came the lack of grip in the hands, balance in the feet and severe muscle weakness.

I had to take sleeping tablets to help me sleep, but taking Amitryptyllin (which is an anti-depressant) at night only really, really helped.
My first nerve conduction tests showed extensive damage.
Due to have second lot of tests next week, but massive improvement so no longer taking the amitryptylin.
I had physio twice a week to fight the muscle weakness and that helped a lot.
When my back joined in, massage really helped the spasms.

Had it in my left knee, diagnosed after a severe sciatica attack. Went to a chiropractor for awhile, until I could walk fairly well. then I began to walk 2 miles a day and 20 minutes in the hot tub. Worked fine until the nerves started growing back in and I had to face that shooting pain. Now the knee is no longer numb. But, boy it really hurts now. Sometimes it wakes me up at night/ They tell me, it is nearly cured by now. I sure do hope so. I wish you success in whatever plan of action you decide to take.

Now my doctor says it's caused by inadequate dialysis. My KTv usually around 2.5 which, according to him is great.
He wants me to come back to the clinic and dialyze for a month to see if that clears it up. He's suggesting the in-clinic dialysis is better...yet he has patients who are doing in-clinic dialysis and they have the same problem. Does that make any sense?
I need to change doctors I guess.

The pain was bad..real bad last night.

Hmmm, John, I beg to differ with what he says unless he is planning for you to have it with the same frequency.  It may suck you clean while you are there but then you have the in-beyween days.  why don't you try a few more extra hoursvof treatment if you can fit them in and see if it improves?
