There's talk of home dialysis nurses being funded here, too - soonish, I believe.  It sounds as if it would be part of the general health care system.  If would be good for me.  I live alone and have peripheral neuropathy (can't really feel if I've got a grip on something).  I can't imagine organising needles going in myself, but I think I could get myself off all right.

That service is not every where I'm sure. since our clinic doesn't even offer home hemo yet.

My dad did home hemo with a nurse in the late 80's thru the 90's. His treatments were covered by Medicare, including the nurse.  He qualified in part, because he had a stroke and couldn't drive. This by itself wasn't enough, but his nephrologist fought until Medicare agreed to cover it. I wish she hadn't retired!

I'm pretty sure most providers would be able to provide a helper if the price was right.

I ran across one of these while doing research on home dialysis.  I called the clinic and asked about their home program, and the nurse answered "What insurance do you have?"  After a few rounds of "I can't answer any questions until I know what your insurance is", I was finally able to get out of her that this was visiting-nurse dialysis, and not self-care.

wonder if that would still be on the 3 day a week schedule? vs 6 days a week we do for HH?

My neph advised Fresenius offers home assist for the convetional BabyK but not the NxStage.

Personally, I wouldn't use this option because the main reason I am on home hemo is the flexibility of my schedule.  I would assume that if you did staff assist, you would need to be on the same schedule every week with minimal deviation.  For me, this would negate most of the benefit for being on home hemo. 

But if something would happen to my husband and I was unable to cannulate myself, I would take this option other than going back in center.
