I am a dialysis veteran, sort of. I did PD for a year anrd a half about 10 years ago(NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!), then hemo for a half year, then I had a transploant that lasted 7 years, now I'm back on hemo. I'm starting home hemo training next Monday--NxStage-looking forward to having a more flexible schedule.
Just found this message board, love the name!

and hope you get all ya need here.. It's been a life saver for many of us and sounds like you have pleanty to share too
We're 'nxStagers' and have been real happy for the freedome it's given us. We havent benifited from the 'travel' part of it yet, but hope to someday.. (thats really my fault, im a bit of a phobic about so many weard things, that i've got us more housebound than any nxStager should be) Anyway, enjoy the training, im sure you'll do great as you have the desire to do so.. Its quite intence at first, then all falls into place. All the best.. and keep intouch. we love hearing all about it

Welcome SisterWoman. NxStage is very difficult at first, but once you get it down, you will not regret it. Being home is an awesome thing isn't it? My husband did PD for 5 years, and actually liked it pretty well. Peritonitis ended it for him, but now is doing NxStage and Ive got to be honest, it has really worked out for me especially. My schedule is why We learned this together.
We love it and it has worked out great for him! His labs are fantastic (He deserves the credit)! He doesn't have to worry about crashing or being wiped out. We have this down to a science now. He has been prescribed 3 on & 2 off days, and has been doing that for about a year or so now. At first we were having to do it more, but hard work on his part, paid off. Now his neph has rewarded his work and put him 3 on & 2 off. With the understanding that if he need to do more, then I will do him an extra day.
You are going to love this NxStage. They are also allowing an extra day on Pureflow before expiring the batch of dialysate. That will be very valuable for some people, especially when it comes to time constraints. Plus, R&D is looking into "lightening" the cycler to be more easy to moneuver. We love to roll the cycler outside on the deck to do his Dialysis when the weather is right. It is a little cumbersome for me, but I get it done! So making it lighter in weight would be great.
Sorry your transplant failed. Can you get on list again! Tell us more about yourself. Would love to hear your story.
God Bless,
lmunchkin
