Red Drainage Bag
«

It's probably just that stuff they put in the caps, but my drainage bag was red this morning, or perhaps it was the tangerines? My urine was normal looking so I'm not concerned, but it looks odd. It's not cloudy.

do you mean tinged with red, or a completely red bag? sounds worrisome to me. I'd call the clinic about that ASAP. I have also been eating a lot tangerines and my drainage has been clear.

I usually get a spot of betadyne in my line as I hook up and start draining, but it isn't enough to tint the whole bag. I would save the bag and call your team if there is enough of something to tint the whole bag.

there are two common reasons that the bag can be tinged pink/red. for females, this can commonly happen during a menstruation. the fallopian tubes are open-ended at the top and blood can get into the peritoneal cavity. other causes can be due to strainng from lifting (or I am sure, maybe having a poo too!). unless it is frank blood or persists, there is usually little to worry about.

My drainage bag was red, again, so I called my PD nurse. She says I have to stop doing my "Born Loser" exercise video, and just walk instead. The lunges, squats, kicks, and such must have broken some blood vessels.

I agree with your nurse, sounds like you have been over doing the exercise thing. Walking is far better. You also have to be careful about getting a hernia. Born loser, toss it.

On the 4th day the drainage bag is no longer red, so stopping the exercise helped. I miss it though. Walking isn't the same. You can't get the blood flowing in all the muscles like with lunges, squats, kicks, and such. It's bad enough I can't surf, but I can't even exercise! I guess I shouldn't complain, but just exercise using approaches that won't strain my core.

Ì just started Qigong. It loosens and strengthens muscles, improves circulation, develops balance between strength and flexibility. Does not strain my body.

Tito, I have some Quigong DVD's, and I used to like it. Perhaps I'll try that again. It's just weird when you massage your stomach and your catheter gets in the way.
